Sigh. The subject says it all. $5! It went for $390.
I was trying to change my bid to $420 before it ended, but it was too late.

I feel your pain. I got one last year. I have missed a few other needed parts lately by a few bucks. It is the season.... |

You need to learn how to "snipe" the auctions! Easiest way is to synchronize a stop watch or timer with the auction item. Then, within 5 seconds of the auction's end, place your bid. This has worked well for me many times... |

You might think you missed it by 5 bucks, BUT-- you have no way of
knowing what the winning bidder had in for his maximum.
Could have been $600 for all you know. If you had entered $420
he still might have been higher. You would have just helped out the seller, that's all. |

I generally open a second browser window of the same eBay auction with a higher bid ready to go if I think I'm going to get sniped. _________________ 1974 Thing -- under the knife

As ebay says, bid to your maximum. I snipe when I care. But if you just bid once at your max you will not later regret the purchase. It is a hard lesson to learn, to bid and watch the coveted item get won by someone else. But later I never regret losing when it got more than my limit. |

I was sniping it. I just didn't anticipate how high it might go. If I had put $420 in, I may have won. "May" being the operative word.
Cie la vie. I bought an exhaust system instead. It's actually on the "list of needs" too, so it's a good thing for my Thing |

Actually, for winning Ebay auctions there is no better site than esnipe.com
You put in the max amount you want to spend and with five seconds left it will bid for you up to your max amount. If your max amount is 450 and it sells for 320 you only pay 320. I've won countless auctions this way. It's not free but it's cheap. |

Mark,
Thanks for the tip/link.
I need to call 'em to see where he is in Tennessee. Both NC and Tennessee are Looooong states. It could be 20 minutes away or 8 hours!
I popped for a ceramic coated Euro exhaust. It fits the original holes in the bumper.
I think I'll get the engine/exhaust and heater operational, then worry get really serious about a lid.
As it is, I like driving it around topless anyway. A top would make it a true 4 season car. |

Here is !! FREE !! sniper software, I have used it for years. I snipe 2 seconds from end of biddiding with it. Don't pay others for what you can do yourself. The only sellers that don't like it are those that have their freinds run up the prices.

bmwloco,
So what muffler did you order? and from where? could you give us some links? Price?
The hardtop is in Nashville.....so the ad says.
$350 for a VWOA hardtop is almost bargain basement if its in reasonable shape.
I have to wonder what the seller means by "original vw thing hard top" though. He doesn't specifically state it is a VWOA hardtop. |
