You are a man of few words.
If you are asking whether a 1956 bug should have a 2 or 3 fold sunroof, the answer is that it should have a two fold (two bow) sunroof with rounded front corners but square rear corners. It is sort of a hybrid roof with the newer style hole and mechanism but still uses the 3 fold style of rear slat iron. The sunroof cover should be vinyl, color-matched to the car, and is a one-year only cover. |

| I had a '56 sunroof and found out that early '56 had 4 square corners, mid year had 2 rounded and 2 squared corners and late '56 had 4 rounded corners. Add to that a material change from cloth to plastic and you'd almost have to narrow it down by serial number as to which you had. Not so simple after all! |

| Oh you had to go and quote me... it's been a while. Damn, maybe it was just the 2 square, 2 round and in cloth, then plastic mid year change to 4 rounded. Anyway, there was definately more than just the square / round combo in '56.. that's all I'm saying. |

They went to vinyl before they went to 4 round corners. I have seen a NOS Coral Red vinyl cover with round front and square back.
Where did you get your info, Chad? I'm curious. |

| Are you confirming or denying because we've written the same thing. I quickly referenced the Ovals Only handbook in this regard (after first post when RareAir pointed out the mistake). I think I should have put a period after "plastic" in my sentence to make it more clear. |

I am confused about what you are saying, I guess. You are the first person I have ever seen suggest that there were any 56 (model year) cars with 3 fold ragtops, and the first person I have ever seen say that there were any vinyl three fold ragtops. I am wondering if there is more to learn on the subject. I'm interested in it because I have an early 56 2-fold car.
I have been told that the Ovals Only book is full of inaccurate information. I have always used the Garwood and Wilson books when it came down to when changes occur. |

| I ordered a nos top from vw when you could still get them and they asked for the serial number as they said 56 had three diffrent size tops. btw the nos top was vinyl. |

Both JT Garwood's "Car of the Century" & Bob Wilson's "1949-59 VW Authenticity Series" books contain inaccuracies. The Garwood book being better in terms of info, the Wilson book much better in pictures. Both books are good, just not 100% accurate. If you want accurate, you need to reference Progressive Refinements. Author?- The VW Factory
On side note, another great picture book is "Volkswagen Bug!" by Ray Miller

That's because in different places a 55 is called a 56, a 56 is called a 55 and a 57 called a 56. The VIN doesn't lie. |
