I have a 1973 two speed wiper motor that is would like to wire to 1968 wiper switch. Is this possible? I can get the motor to operate at both speeds, but no park.
Thanks, Steve |

Murzi these little diagrams of yours are great, they've been really helping me out..I got my running/tails and brake lights all working last night..Would you know of a little diagram like this to wire the below up? It is from a 66-67 bug with 5 wires. It has these 2 little black with green stripe wires, one brown one, a skinny black one, and one other one but I forget the color. It has the switch for the headlight brights built into the lever, thanks.

Here is a link to VintageBus.com for the color wiring diagram for you needs. I figured out my problem with the wiring question above. Murzi has helped alot, though.

The switch will have one wire that is black, green, and white (3 colors)...it goes to the turn signal relay or box, The black and green wire goes to one side of the car turn signals, and the wires they connect to will match, and the black and white wire goes to the other side of the car turn signals, again, the wires will match. The brown wire is the grounding wire to the high beam relay and the other wire should go to the high beam relay.
I hope this helps. |

Ok I just finished wiring this turn signal switch but here is the problem I am having..The front and back turn signals work as they should when I push the lever down to the left and up to the right..but they work only when the ignition key is off . Once I turn the key on they don't work. Its the opposite of how I need it . The problem is the flasher relay I am using has 3 prongs-*49, *49a, and *31. From this diagram I see that the switch input from the turn lever hooks up to the *49a, and I have the ground going to the ground on my chassis. I don't have the 15 and 30 on my flasher relay like the one in this diagram..Am I using the wrong relay? Right now from the Ign. switch I have the #30 wire going to the *49 on the flasher and the #15 wire going to *31 on the flasher. I even tried switching these 2 wires on the relay..but then I get nothing whether the key is on or off, hope this makes sense, thx. _________________ 1963 Ragtop Bug |

I don't want to over complicate this , but here is the bottom line. From ign switch, 30 goes to the solenoid and is only "hot" when starting, 50 is always hot as it comes from the starter lug on the solenoid and battery junction, and 15 "comes on" to activate the ignition or hot side of the coil. Now, just go get a two prong common, garden variety flasher and hook on side to 15 and the other to the "input wire #54 green with white stripe" . It will work trust me. Now if you want an indicator lamp splice into the same "#54 wire green with white stripe terimal on the flasher". I bet you can make the three prong work just play with it. The main thing you need to know is that coming off the ign # 15 is ignition(coil hot key on) and #30 is only hot in start position.
Call me if you get confused tommorrow.

PS all the terminal are DIN designated so somewhere on this WWW is a key to unlock the"code" . I will look -----you look too... _________________ 62 vert

SUMMATION
Try this:
from ign switch hook 15 to 49 on flasher
49a on flasher to input on t/s switch
49a on flasher to turn signal indicator (if you are running one)
31 to ground
should work _________________ 62 vert

Using the wiring guides here on the samba I come up with:
53e green--not used
53b black/yellow--slow speed power
53 black-- high speed power
53a black/gray-- park
31 brown--ground _________________ 62 vert

Hey Murzi, I have it wired just like you have it above, but I get nothing..I am wondering if the switch may be bad? I know the motor works in both speeds because when I jump the switch, the motor spins and the arms move..I have the hot lead wired so the Ign key has to be on for it to work, any ideas? thx _________________ 1963 Ragtop Bug |

I know this is an old thread, but we need some help with a windshield wiring question on Kathleen's Manxter, and I know there a several "wiring wizzes" out there they may know the answer.
Basicly, we have the motor wired up with a Watson's Streetworks switch (changed from a VW swich because of a Flaming River steering column switchout) and everything works except for the park feature. It is a 73 up Super Beetle wiper motor.
It is wired like this - ( ////// ) is the connector.
VW wiper motor ////// Watson's switch
53 Black (fast speed?) ////// Low speed
53B Black/Yellow (slow speed?) ////// high speed
53A Black/Grey (park?) ////// wiper motor park
31 Brown (ground?) ////// car ground
53E Green ////// not hooked up
I know it seems like the high / low is backwards, but when it is hooked up right according to the switch, it works backwards, low position makes the wipers go fast and high position makes the wipers go slow. Once the park feature works, that may fix itself? We have tried to ground the unused green and feed power to it, but that didn't work. We would really appreciate some help with this. Thanks in advance. Tom _________________ Manxter #16, 1968 Meyers Manx & Kick-Out SS #16 (WIP)

53a needs to be hot all the time for park to work. So if you piggyback the power that goes to the switch over to 53a it should park. I just rewired my wipers a couple of days ago, so it's still fresh in my head. _________________ Brian

Q-Dog - thanks for the quick come back. I think that is the way that is wired, but I have not checked to see if 53A is actually getting power. I will try to see if that is the case. Thanks! Tom _________________ Manxter #16, 1968 Meyers Manx & Kick-Out SS #16 (WIP)

We have power from the switch to the motor, still no park. This wiper motor worked when we took it out last fall. We will try another one. Tom _________________ Manxter #16, 1968 Meyers Manx & Kick-Out SS #16 (WIP)
