|
|
I read that the Rockford CV boots from German Supply are the best. Unfortunately, they are out of stock. I was wondering if any one had any experience with the CV boots from BugHaus:
http://www.bughaus.com/CV-Joint_Boot_Kit_-_251598201.htm
I like that they come with the grease, new bolts, and clips. But what about quality?
Also, I purchased new rear brake hoses (part#281-611-775 B) but they appear to be too long (at least longer than what's on my Thing now). These measure 13 1/4" (335mm). What is the correct length and/or part I need?
Thanks! |

I haven't used the bughaus kit, but I put new bus boots on in September and they are already shot. And by shot, I mean tears running about halfway around the inner grooves.
I am patiently waiting for German Supply.
Just my two cents. _________________ '73 Thing -- making 45 mph exciting again. |

I emailed Scott at German Supply and the boots will be back in stock soon. I'll wait and get the "best" from him. |

Actually, any german made boot (from any suplier) for the type 2 will work great, I use OE veedub (www.oeveedub.com). He's got them in stock for $10 a kit.
The correct Thing rear hose is 211-611-775B @ 270mm (10.3")
Hope that helps,

Some have suggested that the set you referenced, Miestersatz do not last a long time.
I got these because they came with all the parts and the lube.
Mismatch the lube (partially because you do not completely clean the old CV's) and you can have a major problem.
I also prefer all new parts on my 43-year-old car.
Anyway my boots are the same brand/kit as those from bughaus. I replaced them in April 06 and they still look and feel like brand new. They have about 5000 miles on them.
Given the cost, and the complete set of replacement parts, they have worked well for me. |
