A user in another forum was talking about a metal Jeep kit that fit on a beetle pan called a Scamp. He is looking for one if anyone knows where to look. The thread has an old ad with a picture - kind of interesting. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=213622
So now we know of the following metal-bodied air-cooled VW SUVs (not counting dune buggies or rails):
