A very common radio. $100 is even high for a good one. NOS ITB....maybe $300: but there are so many in good condition.....why would you even pay that amount unless you were a radio collector and only collected NOS. _________________ "What a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away." Still, I was in awe to look at an NOS one. Talk about pristine. _________________ Central Jersey VW Society

Bob and Ev. thanks for the reality check....Ive been around and didnt know if it was just old age (yes, these were about a $35.00 add on) when I worked at a dealership or just a WAY over priced common radio. Also Bob, I thought the same of his badges. |

Now that I'm thinking about it, the $100 one is my Sapphire II.
I do think the "early" trapezoidal button Sapphire Is ones are a bit more scarce in that condition. This may translate into a high price for the right buyer.

It's interesting to see how shiny the case is. _________________ How to Post Photos

Actually Everett, a Bendix Sapphire I is a more common radio. The Sapphire I was produced for a mass market while the Sapphire II was more VW spacific. Some Sapphire I's say Bendix on the face and some do not. The Bendix logo'd ones are the earlier version and the chrome is nicer and the detail is better as you noted. _________________ "What a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away." If you are saying the early style Sapphire I with the trapezoidal buttons are more common than the square-button style, I am surprised. I have seen WAY more square-button Sapphire Is.
My viewing is limited to VW events and VW vehicles so maybe that explains it.
Here's a breakdown for other people reading:
Early Bendix Sapphire I (60-61):
Later Bendix Sapphire I:
Later non-Bendix Sapphire I:
Sapphire II by Bendix:

My bad.............the button shape is rarer, but the "standard" Sapphire I is a more common radio than the Sapphire II which is the radio of choice of early bus owners. That being said, his price is still way out of line with it's "rarity" but NOS does talk to some people, but at that price it is whispering. _________________ "What a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away." You Guys are worse than a bunch of Bitches. The reason I removed the ad is because someone bought the Radio and they paid $1000.00 |

People are always lining up to pay more than a seller's hugely inflated asking price. _________________ '78 Champagne Edition II Westfalia
