Does anyone have a spare of these two parts. The first, I believe, holds the outside of the cable in place. The second piece is the control that also sticks out in the glove box.

It ain't the eyes its the sense memory of VW parts and their location. When I was a teenager my Mom used to say that I dreamed each night as in that great drawing of the kids sleeping with a vision of a VW dissected into individual parts that was in the original Muir idiot book.
