My thing has a h30/31 pict carb, and it's missing the idle cutoff solenoid. Where it should be is a screw in plug, unless I'm mistaken:
Here's it is with the plug removed:
I purchased what I believe is the correct cutoff solenoid:
The problem is, the hole in the carb is too big for the solenoid. Do I have the wrong solenoid, or a different problem? |

That solonoid doesn't look like the one I used to have on my carb. I no longer have that carb, so I can't tell ya for certain, but my guess is that it's the wrong one. |

and does it just screw in and out ?
I've never seen that part of a carb before,
how does it work? |

Does the H30/31 use the same cutoff solenoid as the 34pict carb?
Anyone have the part# for the right one? |

I grabbed a 30/31 carb off the shelf it dose not look like yours is the right one.
The OD of the threads is about 10mm and the OD of solenoid 30mm. It sticks out of the carb about 35mm.
The one on the 34 is the same, I have one of those on my shelf also. |

It was used to immediately cut off fuel vapor (at that point) to the intake manifold, and prevent "engine run-on" when the ignition key was turned off. Hot carbon on the pistons (due in some part by the cheaper fuels) could continue to ignite fuel being drawn into the cylinders. This solenoid shut off the fuel supply from the main jet in the bowl cavity (bottom of the bowl) to the idle circuit of the carb.
It connected to same point as the electric choke (which ran to the coil). When the key was turned to the "on" position, 12 volts was sent to the coil/choke and this solenoid, which pulled the solenoid plunger back; key off, plunger forward, and therefore blocking fuel vapor from bowl jet. _________________ Current VW drives: 1984 Westfalia

Thanks to all. I did find the correct solenoid, the one in the first pictures I posted was not correct (obviously). |
