I will be welding double shear seat belt tabs to the top of the tunnel this
weekend. Should I be concerned about the fuel line/ shifter coupling / cables
and wires inside of it?
Thanks,

Stock, there's no wires in the tunnel, and only a few of us are crazy enough to do it.
The fuel line is pretty low. It's suspended from tabs on the driver side of the tunnel, about an inch in from the side. So, if you're going in from the top, no worries there. You probably won't be able to heat up the line too badly - and as long as it's full of gas, you'll probably be fine. I understand that you can weld full fuel tanks in a pinch as long as there's NO air in it - you won't catch me doing that though .
The shifter coupling is pretty close to the top along the center - I think only an inch or so down. I'm not exactly sure if there's supposed to be a rear support for it, mine doesn't seem to have one.
You can pop open the front and rear access plates for the tunnel to be sure. The rear access is under the rear seat and the front access is between the beams of the axle. You can drop a small light in the rear and look from the front. |

I'd probably pull the tank, fill the line with water, and cap the ends. Then you know it can't possibly start combusting. _________________ 1974 Thing -- under the knife
