Can anyone tell me the size of the bolts (especially the length) that hold the rear skid plate in place?
Thanks! |

Do you know the size? I have a non-Thing engine case, so I have to drill and tap the holes for the bolts to thread into.
And I love my Thing, so I guess I am a Thing lover... |

I made a mistake in my first post. Those are not special bolts. They are M10 x 1.5 mm x 45 mm |

I don't believe Lowes carries metric anymore, I like Ace for metric bits. _________________ --- The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at and repair.

Ole EERic beat me to the punch. I too find that the Hilman collection at Ace Hardware offers the best selection of VW related metric hardware that I have ever found. Except when i did my resto work at eh VW dealership where the tools are everywhere and the seemingly endless hardware bin is at your constant service. |

For record, the top two bolts are 10mm, the bottom one is 8mm.
I have another question: on the drivers side, the skid plate extends rearward. What is this for? I remember seeing a photo of a restored Thing Shop Thing that showed what looked to be a square exhaust component. Some type of emissions part/EGR? |
