It hooks to the cooling flaps on rear facing side, rare to find that bowden cable intact and don't know where You would find one now a days that works. Scott

At the bottom right of this shroud, you can see the silver rectangular lever that the cable attaches to. The lever is welded onto the cooling shutter/flap. Dont know where to get a new cable, maybe a bicycle brake line?

Peace, Greg

The shutter assembly in the following photo is not from a 68, but I've shown where the shaft would extend out to accomodate that bracket...

Yes, the doghouse version has three pieces and extends further out to clear the now protruding oil cooler...

The shutters themselves are exactly the same. Seen the linkage come up here in the classifieds all the time.

The "bowden" cable's are out there but you have to look HARD! I finally found one for my 69 engine here or Ebay after looking for several months. There is a spring that is part of the cable at the top where it attaches to the oil bath. It closes the warm air going to the carb when the thermostat fully opens the air flaps in the fan schroud. It's pretty cool to see the set up work.
Here is a picture of my 69 engine. It now has the correct distributor cap and the rest of the missing clamps.

If you look at the top right of the oil bath you can see how it hooks up to the oil bath. The big end of the cable is the spring.

Sleeve 113 129 915A

Both of these are NLA (no longer available).

I do see them for sale occasionally here or E-bay.

I have the same problem. I purchased a Toro lawn mower control cable that I will try to modify for my 68 Ghia.

Does anyone have a picture of how the cable routes around the generator shaft? I am trying to assemble this cable now and want to make sure it is right.

I would like to see what hardware is used to attach the cable to the shroud.

My engine is missing the wire inside the cable. Any good sources?

I used a set of cables. I went to the local Wal-mart in the Bike section and they sell in a package Brake cables which are just about the same push pull cable diameter and cable sheath diameter as well. Also you can cut to length as well. took a 3/8 inch diameter drill and wrapped the cable end around the smooth part of the shank of the drill to get the spring like end of the push pull cable. looked exact!. My concern was function however and all worked Great. This is a good copy for the guy who is still trying to locate the original. I finally found an original Cable on the Samba 3 weeks ago. I had been looking for about a year and a half.

The picture up above that has the Cable Clamp or Clip that go's on the Aircleaner flap= it's item C anyone have an extra or one they want to sell?? I am in need. Thanks Eric (VMR)

Eric -

Can you tell me if it wraps to the left of where the generator meets with the fan shroud?

Steven

Well, guess that this works for the cable, now I wonder what one could use for the "clip" - bet these are REALLY hard to find!

Steve the cable will run straight with the bend beginning inbetween the Carb and coil. If you try and use to short of cable it will bind. Its pretty easy to figure out. You can as well make your own cable Clamp and attach it to the existing Thermostat attachment screw that holds the right side thermostat shutter vains into the fan shroud. This will allow for the Cable to push pull.

I think i may know where to get the clip/clamp for the Aircleaner. Will have to check with a certain Vendor first to make sure it will work. Eric (VMR)

By "bike brake cable", do you mean the stranded cable? How were you able to get it to keep a "spring" like bend? Also, can you post some pictures of how you attached it?
