Been researching the wiring diagrams and I still can't figure out what color wire matchs the relay available from the thing shop.
The relay has 4 contacts numbers; 49- 49a- 31- P
The colors on the OG relay are Solid blue- - White-- Blue with a red stripe and Brown (2 wires)
The hard part is getting the right color to the correct terminal and any help would be appreciated. _________________ 1973 Thing |

I had to dig up a Thing diagram so I could see, those are not the normal color wires that VW used on Bugs when they had a 4 terminal flasher relay from late 68-71.
49 is the same as "+" - white wire. That's supply power from the E-flasher switch.
49a, goes to the turn switch, solid blue wire that becomes a black with green and white stripes once it meets the emergency flasher switch.
31 is the ground - brown
P? It's usually K, or Kbl- that's the blinker light. On a thing that's the blue with red stripe.
Also, you can run a normal Euro-style flasher relay with no separate Kbl terminal on it, you just run the wire for the indicator light to terminal 49a.
