My Dual radio came in today. Nice. Technology I would have absolutely gone bonkers for in the 70's is now bubble rapped with a spot for a hook on the wall. $36 delivered from Amazon.com
Oh boy! I'm exited. Radio for my Thing, but more importantly a "line in" for my iPod.
It took me some time to hack into the plastic to get the radio. Once out, it's not different than what I put into a Chevy Citation, Dodge D100, Fiat 124 Sport Spyder, and countless other cars from my past.
But alas, it doesn't fit the OEM Radio holder I have... Stout black plastic, with white around the edges. It will only bring home a proper Sapphire from some time ago.
Hack it up to fit? No.
I'll find a piece of willing metal, bend it to fit, drill it to accommodate, then POR-15 when dry, install the new Dual. There are existing holes in the Thing to happily make the panel fit.
The OEM radio mount will be put somewhere safe. Who knows, maybe someday I'll find a worth Sapphire to fit. |

I'm always on the look out for a low profile portable CD/Radio, one that would fit on the bamboo parcel shelf. That way it can be taken out when not in use and won't require any holes to be drilled for installation. Besides, my Thing is too noisy for a real radio anyway... |

I just bought a 30 Watt Dual Cassette unit with an input jack (for my iPod) f
BMW Loco what is a dual cassette used for in a car ? Are you running tape and 8 tracks. Isnt the idea of using an Ipod so you dont need to carry all the tapes or cd's ? kinda cool running the old school tape's I think I have a box full of them in the garage. Congrats on the new purchase . Maybe we should all post photos of our systems for ideas for others |

Woreign if you had a Real radio hearing it wouldn't be a problem and by real I mean lots of power , high end speakers = clean sound with the top off and no problem hearing it on the highway .The problem is that gets Real expensive Real fast |

This made me think of something else... It's illegal to wear headphones while driving, but OK to wear a hands-free ear piece for your cell phone. I guess the law isn't aware of MP3 players in the cell phones? |

I spent about a grand on my system, which I've outlined in other posts. The cost could come down significantly if you were to wire it yourself I imagine (I don't anything about electronics, and about $300 of what I spent was on labor).
But man, the money was worth it! Crisp, clean, accurate sound reproduction even at highway sppeds with the top down. Bonus points: makes for a great mobile sound system when camping/picnicing/bbq-ing etc. |

I bought the Dual radio from Amazon.com or $36 delivered. Nice unit. Simple controls.
I plan on making a simple "L" shaped mount to hold it. I'll POR-15 it to make it pretty, use the existing holes, route the speakers, get a simple "line in" for the radio and my iPod Shuffle (1st edition) then I'll be tuning in my Thing! |
