One year ago yesterday, the wife and I adopted an abused hound dog from http://www.tampabaybeaglerescue.org/ (please check them out if you need a dog and live in the area; they do great work).

To celebrate our first year with Bailey, we loaded him up in the Thing and drove around to his favorite dog parks. Yes, we know it's not the safest way to transport a dog, but we don't go over 35 and keep in leashed.

Here are some pictures:

Great weather, my beautiful wife, my dog and my Thing -- doesn't get much better than that.

Cute dog! My beagle Dobbie loves to go driving too.

Question for you: how do you keep the carpet on the back of the rear seats in place? I'm using magnets on mine, but they are strong enough against a strong wind gust...

The PO used some sort of black adhesive. Shocked At first I was concerned that it would trap moisture, but so far so good.

Bailey is well minded only to a point:

That's not raw sewage, but it wasn't exactly a crystal clear mountain stream either.

Bailey is always on a leash in the Thing, and he has never tried to jump out. He did jump out of my Passat (thankfully at a full stop and in a parking lot) back when we first got him, but a verbal correction is all that it took to fix that issue.

my experience with dogs....if they can get dirty, they will.

Great pics.

I removed the carpet kit from my car but the PO used screws. Now I have a Holy Thing.

There are a few good solutions to a holey Thing I like POR-15 I have brazed countless blems in my VW pans. The fiber mesh and POR-15 does wonders. On my current cure of the holey issue I am planning the roll on Rhino liner... after some strategic brazing asn heavy wire brush and sanding...

damn this site and its confounded photo posting issues!!! i got a great pic, just last week, of my dog and his brother (twins) and my thing, in the weeds up on the ranch. i came down from running water line and my dogs brother was lounging on the hood of the thing and my dog (the smart one) had comandeered the back seat. great pic. kinda like one of those drive through safari photos. yes, dogs love things...but shouldnt all this nonsence be tied to the beauty and the beast thread?...
