Could Beetle pan be adapted to be used as Thing Pan???

I'm gettin interested in buildin up a Thing. How close is a thing pan to a Beetle? Would it be a lot of trouble to adapt? I have a good beetle pan. Are wheelbase the same? I'm a welder so adapting sheetmetal would not be a problem. Thanks, Garthom

The shape is different, the pan halves on a thing are the same shape as a Ghia.

You'd basically have cut up your pan & use the correct pan halves or at least the correct front halves.

By which stage you could have repaired the Thing pan.

Also the vin number on the tunnel would then be a bug number....

I had/have a Thing which a supposed beetle tunnel was used on...but still has the 183 vin # on....not sure how it was put to the tunnell without cutting. I do konw its because the tunnel housing is rounded neer the shifter and not squared like a Thing should be.

But, No about the Beelte pans...just spend the $ and buy Thing Or Ghia pans!

and, Yes about the wheel base...they are the same!
