Are you going to stay with a stock motor or get one with a little extra punch?

I've been saving up for a new turnkey, and have my eye on this right now:

Great project to do with your pops. Just goes to show that not all education happens within the walls of school. The bus looks great and very clean, nice job.

Hey all,
I finished drawing up my plans for the interior, just to get a picture of what it will look like (not to scale Laughing ).
(FYI the brown is wood, the red is vinyl)
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.
After seeing how classy it looks drawn out, i'm questioning whether or not to keep the beaded curtain Confused

My father and i have decided to get a jump on the interior, so it should come to life within the next few weeks.

I was thinking about doing a wood headliner for a while, and figured doing slats would be easier than trying the Baltic birch route. Then is saw a '67 bus at Litchfield with a wood slat ceiling, and it looked great, fantastic, so we're doing that.

Oh, and I think I forgot to mention that i picked up a jalousie window at Litchfield for $20. It's in proper working order, though I'm going to rebuild it and clean it up a bit.

I vote no for the curtain. It is good to be able to see out the back window and i bet they will make a lot of noise on the back of the front seats.

Great sketch! Did you do that yourself?
Keep up the good work. I wish I got started on VW's at your age.

Yeah, I just used ms paint, then finalized it in adobe illustrator.

The curtain seemed like a cool idea at the time, but i guess it just doesn't fit with the overall look I'm going for.

I'm a young bus owner too (16)...and I love the ideas you have...they are actually quite similar to what I had in mind. Except without a job...I don't have much money to deal with the interior right now. I have other things to worry about like the brakes and the fuel pump.

Wow, that looks good!
Did you use the "$50 paint job" roll on method, or did you use spray cans?

Rolled on top, sprayed on bottom Very Happy

Paint is Tractor Supply Enamel, same thing as rust-oleum.

$20 a gallon

Bumpers and wheels painted w/ rust-oleum spray bombs.

P.S. I'm 18, we should start a poor/young bus owners club!

Where did you get the hinges for the bed? I'd like to make one for my deluxe. Quite impressive what you've done with it so far, keep it up and keep the pix rolling out.

Thanks Very Happy
I got the hinges from bus depot.
I'd recommend trying to find a used set of hinges, or whole bed before buying the new ones though, because they have wicked crappy instructions.
The frame will have to be custom fabricated for new ones. There is also nothing to support the back of the bed when it's down, so I still have to make something for that

Alright, this is the second driver's side door panel i've made, since I ruined the first one Sad
Came out a little lumpier than the first (had to stretch the foam a bit), but at least it's not all marked up
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.
Totally worth the time and effort. not only saving money, but being able to say, "yeah, i made those door panels from scratch" Laughing
Will be doing the passenger side as soon as i get my clips

Nice job!
Glad to hear you are in better spirits too!
Life is not always as smooth as those new door panels of yours. Smile

Got this sweet sewing machine from my grandmother's house:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.
Circa 1927, sears and roebuck
This was actually the newest of three sewing machines she had, the oldest being foot pedal driven Laughing
Took a while, but i got it working properly

Will be using it on the bus interior. nothing major, some small details, and maybe the rear cushion

My hands have gone numb, but I am very happy with my work on my schweet new steering wheel cover.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Made by hand, cut my own vinyl, sewed it together with my new 80 year old sewing machine, stitched it on the wheel with gimp.
And my door panel clips & seals arrived in the mail earlier today, so i can start on my other panels now Smile

you kids are rocking it!
all the kids i know that are your age are too lazy to do anything this creative that requires such time and hard work. we're always bitching about the participation trophy-generation Y kids who aren't motivated by anything at all. my hope has been renewed by some of you younger folks on here getting it done.
be proud of yourself and keep up the good work. when my kids get to be your age i hope they're as capable as you.

and keep the pictures coming, they help me to be less cynical about the future.
cheers!

Just got done filling some holes in the floor
Before:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.
After:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

My dad brazed it in, while i stood on fire duty with the hose
I would have welded it, but I'm out of gas and the guy at the welding supply shop wanted $190 dollars for another tank, because he wouldn't refill ours Evil or Very Mad

still a few pinholes that need to be addressed, but we'll get to those another time
not a "show floor", but once its painted it will be worthy of being covered by the floor mat Laughing
