If you have the two-hose distributor, it's 5 ATDC. 7.5 BTDC otherwise. Once that's set, and the engine runs, make sure the total advance is corret.

An "uh-oh-nine"? Wink

Yep. Static it at 7.5 BTDC, hold it at 3500, and use the strobe light to see if it's at 28-32 degrees.

here is my situation

1. my thing has crankshaft pulley with one dimple as TDC and notch (nearer crankcase) as 7.5 BTDC

2. using VOM, I get 12 volt as notch approach crankcase line/ seam. before notch it is 0 volt. I assume the point contact at the notch/ timing mark. It is out of order I think..
[fyi I clip red wire VOM to low tension voltage coil terminal, and black wire is grounded]

3. then check distributor, distributor notch is located around 1 - 2clock position. Search thesamba, it should be at 4.30.
so my vacuum advance is inline with crankshaft pulley. and capacitor at the right side distributor

whats wrong with my timing?

thank in advance

sorry I made a mistake.

>2. using VOM, I get 12 volt as notch approach crankcase line/ seam.

when I got 12 volt the point was opened. before I thought when I got 12 volt point was shorted
so timing mark is near correct

but dizzy position is not at 4.30.

>3. then check distributor, distributor notch is located around 1 - 2clock >position.

it's ok?
dizzy offset one cylinder...
