Directions on how to post a photo:
- You MUST have a photo located somewhere on the Internet*
- Determine the internet address of your photo, for example my '63 Squareback is located here:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/scrapbook/63variant/63front1.jpg
Save this address to your computer clipboard using Copy from the Edit menu of your browser or Ctrl+C (copy) or something similar
- Create a new post
- Press the img button you see above in your new post, then paste (Edit -> Paste from the menu or Ctrl+V or similar) the web address you copied in step 2
- Press the img button again to mark the end of your photo. It should look like this:
- You are done! Add some comments and press Preview to make sure your photos are working before using Submit to post your message.
* You can use TheSamba.com Gallery if it is VW-related.
------------------------------------
When posting photos, PLEASE consider posting the photos in the Samba Gallery instead of just posting links to some picture hosting site.
If you post it elsewhere, the photos often become "dead links" after a certain period of time, which ruins the thread where you posted the photos. If you post them in the Samba Gallery they are here forever. Not only that, but in the Gallery users can search for photos so much easier than they can in the forums. It's worth it.

Using TheSamba.com Gallery to post a photo:
- Go to the Gallery
- Click "Add Photo" and fill out the form there. Click browse to select the picture from your computer hard drive
- Make sure the file is in JPG format and the filename ends in .jpg
- Submit your photo
- Click on "View All" in the header to see your new picture
- Click on your new photo to enter the Photo detail screen, now you will be at something like:
- Click on the box marked Forum Code:
- Right click on the Forum code text and select copy:
- The link is now on your clipboard, follow the directions in the first post above to past this link into your Forum text.
You do not need to use the img button mentioned above since this link already contains the img markers.

Picasa short version from Adam:
In Picasa, right click on the picture and click view image in your browser. Next, paste the address in between the [Img] tags in the Samba post message window.
-----------------------------------------
Longer tutorial on posting photos from Picasa, thanks to Samba member Orbitron:
When posting images from Picasa, simply using the img button and copying the text from the address bar will not work. It is kind of complicated so if you can use another program other than picasa, it may be adviseable.
The result of highlighting the address bar and using the img button would look like this:
[img]http://picasaweb.google.com/giantjoe/VWStuff/photo#5102650326655584354[/img]
Not a picture right? You must use a web address that has .jpg at the end of it. Some programs have that in the address bar, Picasa doesn't. The ultimate goal here is to obtain a code that looks exactly like this: | Code: | | [img]http://www.webaddress.jpg[/img] |
Note that there are no spaces, nor quotation marks. That is important to remember.
If you get the basic idea of coding you can probably stop reading here, but if you requre further instruction, here is the correct way of inserting a Picasa image into the bulletin board interface:
Find the image you wish to post in the Picasa interface. You must use the "link to this photo" module on the lower right hand side of the page to get the code required for making an image. See below:

Using the drop down menu, select the size of picture you wish to post, I usually select 800px. Highlight the text in the "HTML to embed in website" box and copy it. Unfortunately, you cannot simply paste this into the bulletin board interface, or you'd end up with something like this (minus the bold formatting):
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/giantjoe/VWStuff/photo#5102650326655584354"><img src="http://lh6.google.com/giantjoe/RtBBb-VWSGI/AAAAAAAAAWg/q5W1MYXgLqc/s800/picasa.jpg" /></a> Quite a mess isn't it? All you want to use is a web address that ends with .jpg to be surrounded by the bulletin board tag for images.
Follow closely:
Go to picasa and get your image code as described above. Navigate to The Samba and post a reply. Click the img button in the Bulletin Board interface Paste the Picasa stuff after the code. Remove all the text except for the bolded stuff from above. Make sure your code looks like this:
| Code: | | [img]http://lh6.google.com/giantjoe/RtBBb-VWSGI/AAAAAAAAAWg/q5W1MYXgLqc/s800/picasa.jpg[/img] |
Post your reply. Here is the result of using the exact code from the last point.
Well, that's it. Hopefully you can understand what I have said thus far and if you have any issues, you can always ask for help from any The Samba members, they are usually quite good about helping. _________________ How to post photos
