I snapped the plastic sleeve for the hood release cable. The handle inside never seated right and after futzing with it realized the plastic inside the metal tube was mashed up. So I tried tugging on the plastic from the otherside and it snaped on me.

Did I just snap a Thing specific part? Thing shop has cable sets for 30.00

In theory I could just replace the plastic but I might as well replace the wire it has some crinks in it. But the pull handle is perfect.

Also check this pic out, this is moments before I snapped the plastic sleeve (sometimes I wish I had a time machine Delorean)

Is the amount of space where the plastic tube meets the metal tube about right? Or should that thicker diameter plastic piece meet the metal tube?

Thanks guys

The thicker part of the white plastic should be touching the metal tube. Think if a bicycle brake cable. The outer casing [white plastic in your case] has to be secure at both ends before the inner core will give you the proper pull.

You can fabricate this assembly. But, it has to be the correct inside and outside diameters for all part to funciton properly. Both of my current Things have this assembly that were bought from the usual suspect and they both work perfectly every time..

The usual suspect has the usual aftermarket. Works ok though?

I might go with Mike's.
