I have a 74 alcapulco thing. I bought it with a passenger mirror that has an extended arm. This is the horizontal/angled portion to the back of the morror itself. The arm is all one factory piece, not the add on vertical arm to raise the height. I'd like to find a driver side to match, if I could figure out what it is. Can anyone help? I'll post a picture when I figure out how. Thanx[/img]

Aha, Nice to finally know what it is. So, are they original to either 73 or 74? Or are they a later factory replacement.

I'm sorry but for the moment, they are no longer available.
I sold the 3 ones in the picture, and some others some months ago.
But they are hard to find.

I've been told that a shop in France sells them at 150 euros each, about 210 US Dollars (I was selling them at 75 euros each).

So does it come in a driver side, or is it pass. side only? I would hope maybe they made it for RHD Things, Trekkers or busses.

This is a 74 mirror for right side only. When VW realized that when you had the doors off you did not have a mirror so they moved the mounting point to the cowl and not the doors. The longer arm was needed to see in this position. I think the Thing Shop has reman. these.

This passenger side mirror with the elephant trunk horizontal extension is a truly rare part. I suspect that the theory about the "Bay Window" towing mirror dealer accessory theory is possible and hopefuly a truth...

The main point is if you see one get one...

If i had one I could make an extension to make the rest like the rare one.
