I have posted some pics of my Lead Sled Type 3 project in a few different threads, but thought I would post some recent progress pics in a thread of her own. That way I can post periodic updates. This is one that I am working towards having driveable for the 2008 Invasion next year.
Enjoy.
and for those that haven't seen it.....this is where I am trying to go with the car.

John, I hope I've been keeping you motivated on your project. I've been following it on VolksRodders for quite some time. You've made great progress with it, and it's really taken on a life of it's own. It's also pretty damn close to your vision of what you wanted it to look like.
Mine is up and running, but still under construction. Today, the last of the exterior welding was finshed (the left front fender), but I've still got to grind it smooth and prime it. Maybe someday I'll build a copy of a VWoA trailer hitch, but for now the project is heading on to body work (so it'll look good for the Invasion). Keep up the good work, and post pics often.
And as Thrasher Bill would say, "Is it done yet?" _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

| That is going to be awesome. How do you plan to do the quarter windows (toward the back)? |

For now, I don't plan to have any side glass in the car. The tops of the doors are capped. It is going to be a fair weather only car. I will have a pretty minimalist interior so a little water won't hurt. I also plan to make some snap-in vinyl side curtains in case I ever get caught in a storm or overnight rain.
Some day I will reconsider and try to get some glass in it. _________________ Later,

You've probably already seen this, but here's something that reminded me of your roof design.

Yeah, but Colin built his car out of a Notchback, and made the roof removable. He tried to use as many Notchback parts as possible when he did his build up.
John, were you able to work out a deal for the original engine and trans yet? Just curious. |
Yup. Have seen Colin's awesome car. Was part of the inspiration for my car. I am going a little further with mine.
Here are couple of other pictures that show some of things I am doing to change the proportions of the car and stretch it out some.
I moved the windshield forward 4 inches and stood it up a little bit more than stock.
I lengthened the rear fenders by 6 inches to give them a bit more of a fin look.

This is what I got done today. Got most of the inner fender to car interface tacked in place. Still lots of welding to do, but it is more progress. For grins I dragged her out of the garage and put the taillights and rear reflectors on for some pics.
I really like this last shot. It shows off the "fins" nicely and shows the tie -in to the license plate light.
I also cleaned out all the extra sheetmetal I have been "storing" in the car. I did some noodling on the inner structure of the roof to body joint. I have a game plan for it that I will start on over the next few days. _________________ Later,

I had seen this on samba a while back and thought it was too cool I have to give you cudo's on your talent. I am not artistic enough to have come up with something as cool as your car I cant wait to see the final outcome _________________ FUCK CANCER FUCK CANCER FUCK CANCER!!
