Check out the archives....

I know the paint colors are for 1974...
Also check here...

I believe the finish is a satin...not a high gloss. Although the '73 THING that sold at Barrett - Jackson this year for record $$ looked to be definitely HIGH gloss Wink

Good luck with the top... If it's canvas you might be able to dye it.

What color are you trying to make the top?

I would think this is obvious, but wouldn't painting the soft top just result in cracking and flaking within minutes of drying?

I guess one way to make sure would be to paint a large piece of scrap canvas or vinyl, let it dry in the sun and then flex it about, fold it and bend it like how the top on a 181 will flex, fold and bend. I'm sure after a couple of weeks exposure to the sun and elements a painted soft top will end up looking like a cracked mess. And what about the fumes from all the paint that gets absorbed into the top itself? Can't be good.

I guess you could dye a canvas top, but again, practice dying a scrap piece of canvas first before attempting the real deal on your top. If you have a black canvas top I doubt that dying it any color will work unless you want to have a really dark color like midnight blue or something.

I have no idea how to change the color of a vinyl top other than to replace it with a new one. Too bad that costs a small fortune.
