I am new to the Thing scene, adding a 1974 to my 1971 Ghia. I know about The Thing Shop, are there any other resources that would be helpful? Thanks for your input. |

I live in Tucson and had to go up to Phoenix last week on Business, I stopped by The Thing Shop and I have to say I was very impressed. They don't actually have a store, its a ware house where they fabricate many of their parts. I got a tour of the the place and picked up a few Odds and Ends I needed for my 73 (like the hubcap retainer clips, I didn't even know they carried those)
Anyway it looked to me like they have everything you could possibly need outside of engine parts. Although he did say they were running low on hoods and front passanger quarter panels (where the gas cap comes thru) I was told they dont make any of the body panels, they are either used or new old stock. I didn't know this but apparently when the factory in Mexico closed the guy that owns the thing shop went down and bought up all left over sheet metal and thats where much of their body panel inventory comes from.
Overall, again I was very impressed. |

Well the "new" 73 Thing is on the road, registered and inspected. The steering is a bit loose but working on that. Planning on replacing the pans and painting very soon. I love my 71 Ghia, but I'm diggin my Thing. _________________ "If I were a spy, would I tell you?" |

Congratulations!! I've two friends who own both a Thing and a Ghia, and they keep going back and forth on which to drive. The Things usually beat out in summertime, and the Ghias come out more often in winter.
Any pics yet? _________________ VW-181 shirts and stickers.
