What do you think of it without the body lift? I think it is much better.

Did you lower it, or did it have a bug front end in the first pic too?

It depends on what you like, some like the raised look, some like the lowered. I like both, so I think both pics look pretty good Very Happy

Oh, and getting two digital cameras (or scanners, or screens, or film rolls) to show the same color is really really hard. Color correction is big business.

It's in the eye of the behoilder. If you want the off road look go for the raised . For Crusing go with the lowered look. Both look great.

It already had the bug beam.

I like the raised look, myself. How much did that body lift set you back?

It came with the vehicle. Sort of free I guess.

Just so everybody doesn't keep messaging me about the lift, I just want to clarify that this lift was kind of ghetto. It was very much a product of the PO's imagination. Trust me, you do not want it. Unless someone want's to haul it off for scrap, it is not worth anything.

If you really want to embrace the lowered look, spend a few hours and re-index your rear torsion springs. You can go as low as you want in the rear (fenders permitting) it just takes a bit of wrench and jack work to change it.

I think there's a law though that any car within 2" of the ground must have a powerful stereo with base frequencies audible at least a block away. That, or just cut off your muffler. Very Happy

Do you have a link to instructions that would explain this in better detail? I'm getting ideas now. Eh?

That's a Type 3. The biggest differences are that you'll have to take off the snubber to get the trailing arm high enough to be out of the way, you'll have to remove your fender, and you'll have to use a jack to lower then lift the spring plate into place. (A Thing doesn't have a place on the frame to hook a tensioner.)

Make sure you understand what you're doing before pulling the spring plate - that's dangerous and can break your arm or kill you if it lets go. Remember, it pushes hard enough to hold up the car - you gotta let it down gently and STAY OUT FROM UNDER IT until you relieve the tension. I tried to use my cheap, wobbly jack to put mine back on last time - when the jack slipped, the spring plate slammed it hard to the ground and it went skidding across the floor in pieces. I was lucky that it went the other direction and didn't fly at me.

The way I pulled the spring plate was to first get everything out of the way - remove the fender, remove the wheel, unbolt and push the trailing arm up out of the way. Remove the spring plate cover bolts, then the spring plate cover. With a nice, stable jack under the edge of the spring plate, jack up the spring plate until it just moves off the stop. Now, with a crowbar and/or fat screwdriver working from the TOP (no part of you should be beneath the plate) work the plate outward off the stop. Once it's clear, gently lower the jack to relieve the tension. Mark the position and start moving the notches as described in the video.

To get it back on, use the jack to push it up over the stop, then use the spring plate cover and bolts to pull it back into place. Before you start, you may have to go pick up some longer bolts with the same threads to make this job easier. Once the spring plate is pulled back over the stop, you can lower the jack CAREFULLY so you can put everything back together.

I like both setup; but I prefer the lower setup.

So is it lower than a stock Thing? Or is it the same height. The angle on the "After" picture makes it LOOK like it is lowered a bit, at least to me...
