If I had a barndoor, I would totally turn the engine bay into a little sleeping compartment, like you get on a train. Just take the spare tire out put it on the roof where I would drill in an after market roof rack. Also, It would have to have sky lights if I couldn't afford a 23 window. Hell, I might just make it a convertible and throw some big rally wheels on it. Of course I would have to cut the wells but that's a small price to pay for a sweet ass ride.

Wow, those 4x ideas are super sick. Too bad my 52 split is already baja'd out, or I might have to utilize some of the ideas mentioned above. I was told that old stock VW stuff grows on trees, no one really buys that crap do they? I mean 25hp? My shot of NOS is double that.

christammizoie,

It was a joke! This is the R&Rs, nothing should be taken too seriously. I'm sure sambastuff understands. This whole thread is a joke. If you read all the posts you will, hopefully, realize that.

I may not be in the JHC, but I do agree with most of their views. Consider yourself warned.

Correction, not the R&Rs. Just a thread that seems like it should be.

Hell if you are going to do all this work it would be a shame not to make a funny car design. That flip top body thing would be indispensable for getting in and out of it in crowded parking lots. This may not be the R&Rs but this is the funniest thread I've seen in the Splitbus forum in months. Ya know with it all jacked up in the air "Bigfoot style" you'd have to find a couple OG westy ladders to put on electric slides... Heck no you have an air compressor on board... put it on a air operated lift. Ya that would be the shiat.

Since we are on the subject of customization I have a problem you guys might be able to help me with.

I have a cool bus I just bought but it has those stupid little windows on the roof area (8 of them). What would be the best plastic filler to fill them in with? Will bondo adhear to the glass OK?

Thanks.

dougburgy,

Get the gallon cans of JB Weld (or quarts since they are more readliy available). Fill the windows while leaving the glass in place. Then you can skin the rest of the bus, sand, and then buff to a shine. No need to paint as long as your like muddy gray as a bus color.

If you're have excellent JB Weld Skills, you can actually make molds lined with saran wrap and make an epoxy wing for the top of your bus. LOL

Hey,

I live in a part of the country where the roads are never salted as well. It's nice, but you know why??? Because OKLAHOMA IS TOO FUKIN' POOR TO AFFORD TO BUY SALT!!! THIS ISN'T A FUKN' STATE! IT'S CLOSER TO A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY!

You said it not me... represented well.

Doug, The best way I can come up with would be to just cut the whole damn roof off and rivet on a fiberglass boat turned upside down. This will ensure no one can just knock out all that bondo and end up with those windows again. It also gives you a psuedo high-roof. Only problem is, once you mold on the JBwing, youll have to watch the height when using the parking garage at Sea-Tac airport.

Yea man, I said it. Truth hurts like hell, I'll admit. However, I can say, most people drive pick-ups in Oklahoma. Unlike Novas jacked up 40 feet in the ass-end with airshocks, monster tires that stick out the side of the car...slammed on some Keystones or Craigers, and every sticker you can buy in a grab bag (from Summit Racing) stuck all over their back window. Not to mention the 80's hairstyle and threads you have to have to be cool. Sorry man, Oklahoma sucks, but Ohio sucks times 10.

While I'm JB-welding those 8 little windows, what sort of support would I need to allow me to JB-weld over the big cutout in the roof? It measures approx. 40" wide by 60" long. Would chicken wire be strong enough?

Chicken wire works as good as anything. The wider the weave the better. Home Depots got six foot rolls on sale right now.

I HAVE FOUND THAT CARDBOARD IS ALSO ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE BUT IF YOU USE CHICKEN WIRE AND CARDBOARD HOLY SHIT THATS SOME STRONG STUFF. IF YOU CANT AFFORD THE CHICKEN WIRE JUST CUT THE SCREEN OUT OF YOUR TRAILERS DOOR AND USE THAT. THAT ONLY WORKS IF YOU HAVE THE AMERICAN DREAM " DOUBLE WIDE". SO TO ALL OF YOU GUYS IN WHATEVER STATE THAT STARTS WITH AN O, YOU WILL MOST LIKELY BE ABLE TO GET SOME EXTRA SCREEN FROM YOUR NEIGHBORS IN THE TRAILER PARK. LATER, ODIN
