PostPosted: Thu Apr 10, 2008 8:41 am    Post subject: Radio power supply Reply with quote

I am looking for any information concerning the power supply component that goes with my Lorenz radio. I do not possess the required component to make my radio function. I have never seen one..
Is there someone who has one that could send me/ reply to this post with pics of the power supply?
I am ready to send my radio to Mr. Wilkes for repair, I need one of these power supply's.
Any help/information much appreciated.

Have never seen a Lorenz split radio that required a separate power pack, the power tubes/transformers should be all in one with that radio (just like the Becker Monza), its the reason why its really heavy, thanks for letting us know if for some reason you believe different.

My Lorenz has a seperate power pack. I'm sure it was reconstructed at one point - I don't think its original.

There is really not much to it.

Wow, thats a first for me, have never been asked to do a matching cosmetic resto on a Lorenz or Schaub radio power pack, and I've redone at least 8 of these radios here, incredible! Makes me wonder now that all the other radios done here were most likely for show? Thanks for posting!

You didn't notice the crazy plug that goes to the power pack?

Hmm, now that you mention it yes, but again 8 of these in here for finish resto work and not one power pack to spray match? Seems really strange. I've also seen at least a dozen different external/case plug configurations on various radios, big honking multipin connectors for small stuff like an auxilliary speaker, so never made the connection given the size and weight of the radio that it would have a separate power pack. Plus the main head on the Lorenz too is twice that of an IA50, since I handle alot of these and Monzas every year here just never gave it more thought, just assumed I guess, but great to know now.

Just glad then I've passed on buying probably 3 of these in the past since none of them had a power pack to go with them. The Lorenz is my favorite split radio looks-wise, nothing beats that rainbow shaped radio dial in my opinion, but my IA50 comes in a close second, and with its matching antenna badge its a nice touch, and it works pretty well. The Lorenz, Becker, and IA50 I believe are the only radios worth considering putting in-dash, everything else lacks in design aesthetic, just an opinion but when you put these things side by side you can see what I mean.

Actually not a big fan of the Loewe, which isn't really much different than the Opta radio, and the speaker bezel basically takes up nearly all of the pod, so thats just what stares you in the face, just don't see much Deco styling in that since there is no other angular symmetry there. The glass dial is kind of cool but its not noticeable enough, but that dial is at least concave curved not flat, makes it a little more interesting. The Rohde & Schwarz, Grundig, and Blaupunkt pod radios are a more interesting after my top 3, after that I wouldn't be the least interested even at half price on anything else to be honest.
