hie, i realise that many japanese cars are starting to go with skinny tyres on large diametre rims. such like toyota avanza uses 185/15 and some other smaller cars with 175/15(low profile) im nt into the low profile. i ryte now have 175/15 on my bug, its a dunlop made in germany. have no idea what car it was meant for but it seems pretty good. i might go for 185/15 later on. bt i plan to put on some spacers up front, not too wide, just enuf so that i can have a slightly wider turning radius. regards, dev _________________ Honda Accord 1981

Discontinued already? Jeez, I thought they were like, a new listing item!
I just looked and Whitney's website shows them, but says "will ship in 2-3 weeks", and with an "F" part number means they don't stock them directly, but have someone else ship them out. I was thinking about ordering them, "just to have" while they have them on a 4-for-the-price-of-3 special. Heck, I just checked and they have a free shipping deal going today as well. I wonder if that would apply for those, probably not.

Will that size work on stock VW wheels? |

If you want the same height tire as stock, then that one would not match, it would be approximately an inch and a half smaller in diameter. It would probably work OK otherwise though. |

i run those size tyres on my bug. it isn't so bad. my tyres are some dunlop SP made in germany. however, if iim not mistaken the mini coopers use run flats on their cars allowing making them expensive. the new mini doesnt have a spare tyre to save weight. but someone willing might just be able to run such tyres.... regards, dev _________________ Honda Accord 1981

Looks like a Kumho Power Star 758. Good tire, though Tire Rack sells the same one for $40...then again, they don't have them in stock. _________________ Mike

I found a company that sells 145/80/15's for $135/pr. Company name is GEARWORKS....Their link is: http://www.gearworksmfg.com/ or call 815-895-0244 if you can't find the size you need. Ask for Gene.
Another two sources are http://www.tires-easy.com, 165's for $49, and http://tiresavings.com 165/15 from $49-58

Coker is selling 175/80/R15 BF Goodrich tires for $46 each. These should work just fine on a standard 15 x 4.5 inch stock rim. I just ordered a set this week to replace my old 165R15's.

Those tires will work out to about 26" tall, slightly taller than stock. That wouldn't be a problem for me, I'd previously mentioned those tires in one of the other threads on this topic and that I might try them myself at some point. |

Hello,
I got a set of Metric 165R15 from Discount tire in Raleigh.
It took ~3 weeks to get them.
They told me that the Kumhos were available & then a week later told me they were not. Then they located these tires in Cali & had them shipped to NC.
The tires are Kelly Springfield, made for Goodyear. They are called the "Arizonan"
I asked the dealer if they were old tires that had been sitting around for years. He said no & showed me the mark that indicated it was made in the 13th week of 2008.
So they are in production to some scale. |
