I am currently running a custom header system on my dual carb 1776 and wondered (I understand back pressure and the reason for headers)if there is a great loss of power if I converted over to a stock exhaust system. I'm looking for a quieter ride. Anybody gone this route? Thanks, Stevie

I know a guy that has a dual carb 1776 in his Bug (74 Super), and he is running it with the pea shooters, and has been for almost two years now without problems. I don't know about you, because you will have the single tip Bus exhaust. What kind of muffler do you have on your header? Every car I have seen with a single quiet pack is fairly quiet.

I forgot to mention that it is a dual muffler and dual tailpipe setup. I don't know much about the mufflers. The bus came with this exhaust system.

You would loose some power. I run a quiet pack on my bus and its not loud. I wouldn't go back to a stock muffler on it.

quiet packs should not be that loud. thus "quiet pack". when you first start it up, put your hand over the tailpipe. if you hear much more that a slight rumble and the engine clicking away then you have an exhaust leak. i put dual quiet pack on my bus and didn't like it at all. it sat crooked and looked stupid to me. i sold it at a swap for $10 and got a single instead. not only do these mufflers give better power than stock, they give better gas mileage and burn cleaner.

Thanks for the info. I'll look into the "quiet pack" this weekend.
