correct me if i'm wrong here. they were offered on the sportier models of BMC cars (Austin, Morris, MG, Healey, etc) in the late 60's and 70's.

Those spacers on the tail lights is an SA-only factory design to fit the large (elphant foot) tail lights to rear fenders designed for the tombstone tail lights. We never had the 1303-like 'high' tail light fenders on our Beetles.
