I'm not sure how much a 1385cc 40HP counts as "vintage speed" but many of the threads where I discuss them have been moved over to this new forum.
Me, I just use a stock 6-spring pressure 180mm plate and a spring-center disk. I prefer the feel of that type of pressure plate over the modern diaphram style. |

Hello-
I've you're concerned that a standard 180mm pressure plate won't be enough, ACN sells a super duper 180mm pressure plate from Kennedy.
BTW, if you do install a Kennedy PP, I would recommend rebuilding your pedal assembly and adding one of the extra long clutch arms. When I installed a Kennedy PP in my oval, the already worn pedal assembly, wore out shortly after. With the longer clutch arm, you won’t have to rationalize why your left leg hurts all the time.

Or get a 6V flywheel that takes the 200mm disc and PP and be done with it.

good info, thanks.
i'm building a big bore, dual carb, cam, headwork, etc 40hp engine. even though it isn't going to big a big performance upgrade, i was wondering if the stock 180mm clutch would work. i didn't realize john sold a hd clutch. _________________ AnimalsInTheAttic

Use the 180mm Porsche 356 pressure plate. Karls Custom in Mesa has them. Not too expensive. _________________ Tom

| The clutch plate on my 30hp judson motor has a pressure plate off an industial engine, as it has more springs = more pressure. Its worked fine and hooks up well. Just a thought. :D |

This is the way to go.... I have this clutch in my 55 3Fold with Judson and in my 52 Split even.... really a nice springy clutch. _________________ DB

Actually Sachs/Amortex has an excellent pressure plate out that is diaphram style like the Porsche and costs 69.00 at Karls Custom VW in Mesa, AZ. Its a bus plate and will hold anything but the crazy stuff. The Kennedy will break your pedals, cable, clutch tube and left leg on a daily driver. The real german Porsche one is 110.00......... _________________ Tom

Lee, I have a very nice 200mm 12lb 6 volt flywheel just resurfaced if interested. I use a Kennedy Stage-1 with Daikin Disc. Send me a Private Email. Howard in Arvada |
