Well, you're pretty local. I will PM you next season and maybe we can hit up an autocross. I'd love to check out your megasquirt EDIS setup. Been thinking about making that conversion myself.

It doesn't look too hard, just costs money, which is kinda scarce around here. I drive my bug 44 miles round trip to work 5 days a week... So reliability and MPG are paramount... I say it doesn't look too hard, but then, I'm quite the nerd, so who knows... It should be running with EDIS before the end of January for sure, just trying to get the funds for mega squirt together, prolly sell a fish tank and filter setup or something haha

Duuuuude. I love auto-xing. I do plan on building a auto-x bug at some point.

But yeah, throw a second coat of the satin black on there, then use a gloss clear coat to make the stripes. That would look sick.

SKT, no need to jump in here and defend me. If people say it's an ugly car, they're right. I am in the process of stripping all the grey, black, and yellow primer off of it and getting it back to the OG black paint. Although, it's not going very easy, so I'm considering just doing the minor bodywork and spraying it instead. The wide fiberglass fenders are gonna stay though!

How wide are your fenders

I'm not exactly sure, I've never measured them. I'll measure them against the fenders on my wife's 66 and get back to you.

UPDATE!

A while ago, I scored a set of 17 inch turbo twists from my dad to use as street tires. So I test fit them and found out that I have room for a 255/45/17 in the back! check it out:

So now that I have the 17s to use as street tires, I decided that I could put slicks on my Fuchs to autocross with. Except the front wheels were 15x6 and I wanted more traction in the front, so I found a cheap pair of 15x7 cookie cutters on craigslist and used them for fronts. Now I've got 225/50/15 Kumho Victoracers on the front and rear of my bug, and it grips like a champ!

So I got the slicks mounted, added a front sway bar and a new driver's seat, and took it to another autocross. It still understeers pretty badly, so I need to look into adding some camber to the front and increasing the spring rate some more. Here's some pictures from the last race:

those last two shots show the car under hard cornering. Notice that it's not leaning over very much. That's partially because the front end is not gripping enough, and partly due to the big swaybars.

Thanks man!

I think the key is to have fat enough tires to fill them up, so that they look like they're necessary. Fat fenders and skinny tires are just ugly as hell.

I am working on getting some bumpers mounted up here pretty soon. it'll just be a plain euro blade front and rear, but I will probably have to widen them a couple of inches, and then I will paint them silver like I did with the body chrome. I am hoping that widened bumpers and horn grills will help conceal the fenders a little bit.

You can try the front bumper on the rear. The curve matches the widened rear fenders better.

Looks pretty good with the twists on it.

Man, I'd love to see some video too! It'd be a great way to see how the car is set up. Unfortunately, I didn't get any video of it. But I will be sure and borrow a camera so that I can in the next event.

Diggin the car Roach.

What exhaust do you have?

It looks like a hideaway, and if so is it very loud?

The stinger set up on my car is obnoxious.
