For real! You've got to get more pictures! I've already used the engine shot as my desktop pic.

If I had the money, I'd buy it for sure.

It happens, a friend of mine got an 80's mercedes 5 cylinder from his grandfather because he was cleaning out on of his garages and forgot he had the car. Granted it had a few more than 43 miles on it.

If it hasn't moved in 39 years, I know EXACTLY where it is located and the owner's name. And everyone else will too if they open their eyes a little when looking at the pictures.

That's awesome. Reminds me of the 79 vert I took pictures of at the VW dealer in Richardson.

That's way too much for a 69. The 79 verts with 50 miles on the clock sell for around $30K.

Someone w/ an untreated mental condition. Apparently (the car is not mine and I never knew the owner...I'm only repeating what I was told), the guy saved everything. Like thousands of gum wrappers (pressed flat and stacked) and hundreds of matchbooks...empty matchbooks.

I'll try to get out there and take some more images but I'm not really much into bugs priced at $39K and the fella that now owns it seemed pretty set on the price. And yes, I imaged the title too but don't feel very comfortable posting a car's title on the web.

I'm glad people are enjoying looking at it.

It would probably be worth more with a stock steering wheel. Send me that dealer option wheel in the car and I'll hook you up with a nice stock one... Very Happy

Really cool Vdub with some cool period accessories. Somebody really made this car special, but oddly never drove it.

$39K, seems really high. What's the deal with the owner? It sounds like he thinks he knows something or is trying compare it with a rare muscle car find. Doesn't sound like your usual barn owner that doesn't really know what they have and would be willing to let her go for $500.

Does he even know about Barrett-Jackson? because then again, if cars there go for $100-200K, $39K is chump change to somebody that has that kind of money to spend on a car.

The owner had it appraised by a local guy. I've no idea how they came to $39K as a value. The owner mentioned Barrett Jackson but we're a LONG way from there and to my knowledge, B-J is a no-reserve auction to once it's up there, it's going home w/ someone. Further, I'm not sure if there is a fee to put it on that auction or not but would think that you have to pay a fair bit to get it listed and on TV.

In my opinion, this is the sort of car that SHOULD NOT be restored.

To make drivable All the rubber even tires would have to be replaced.

The engine, sitting for 39 years, would have to rebuilt.

All of this would destroy the cars original state value

Heck, even to drive it would do that.

Trailer Queen for life I say.

It does cost to put it on the B-J auction. They charge the seller a percentage and the buyer a percentage. Since it is a no reserve auction I have seen sellers put bidders in the crowd to bid in case it does not fetch enough. When that happens the seller ends up paying both percentages.
I have only been there one time four years ago but I think it was 10% for the seller and 6% for the buyer. In this case though he could put it up there and sell it for whatever. He did not spend all that money restoring the car.
My guess is that even the B-J crowd would not pay that much for the car!
