Anyone else notice that there are fewer and fewer listings for T3's in europe? For example, I'm always searching this Swedish classified site for Transporters. Lately there have not been very many.
So, now do we move onto the T4 Doka? Who's going to be the first in line for a nice T4 2.5 TDI Syncro Doka? I bet they get great mileage, drive really well, are quiet etc. But do they have personality like the T3's?
I'm thinking for a daily driver this may be pretty cool. This one has an accessory molded side kit.

Were any of the T4's rear wheel drive? or were they only FWD or syncros
Also I was looking at ebay.de yesterday, and there were quite a few 16" syncros (including a 4dr Doka, not a Tristar though), way more that usual. but less T3's (Vanagons) in general. In a couple more years they will become considerably easier to import to the US _________________ 89 Bluestar-2.5 Subaru Powered-RIP

EEEEWWW those things are ugly- I would rather have a LT. The eurovans that I have been in had all the personality and coolness of a honda. The engine is in front, FWD unless you are luck enough to get a syncro. For any off roading that thing would suck with it's low ground clearance and bad approach/departure angles. Daily driver it would be fine, but so would a CRV. I say you buy one Eric and tweak it- I am sure that you could make one a lot better. |

I have this new found love for anything diesel. I just converted my Mercedes G wagen to diesel, I'm really into the whole comfort and great economy thing now.
I do have a weak spot for things you can't get in the USA. This would be one of them. I would say the ultimate would be the 2.5 TDI Syncro doublecab with 4 doors.
Have you seen the Jagdwagen T4? _________________ Vanagon/Transporter flares here: www.terrawagen.com

Why not hold out for a T5 doka with 4motion, 6 speed tranny and a 2.5l TDI? I think they look better and you would still be the only one on the block driving one.

Eric, when you buy one day T4 doka I have side kit for you. I see it only in Sweden never in Germany. It is also available for singlecabs
This one with alu gates:
Notice the spray nozzles and the sun protector
And the green single cab had VR6 engine which is not very popular over here in Europe as much as in USA especially in single cabs, and this single cab have side kit

Many T4 Doka`s from Sweden got this side kit. I`ve never seen a Norwegian with them... Same with the alu side gates. But I`ve seen some of them here in Norway:)
For sure a T4 with TDI is something to think about;) If I ever gonna buy one, I need a syncro. But the syncro system in T4 is like night and day if you compare with the old T3 syncro from Puch
You get them with some kind of diff. lock... But how it works, I`m not sure...
For a daily drive, I`m sure it`s a good car:)
A guy near me got a T4 syncro doka, but I`ve never tried it...
Right now I drive a white T3 Syncro doka, but I have to admit I`m wondering to get a Vanagon with five seats, and lots of space behind. Syncro and both diff locks
At work I drive a brand new T5 130hp TDI, 4 motion, longest edition. Reflex silver, and some small goodies like AC, leather seats, stearing wheel, Heat in the backroom....
Workcar in use when we picked up a Tristar syncro :

for a DD I think it would be a great...BUT
I would not get this if I was wanting to take it off road. My parents ford windstar has more clearence then the t4. And I have never seen it but does anyone really take the t4 Syncro off roading??? I mean my little 1.9, 2wd could go the same places as that one youtube post of the eurovan on the dirt road.

My 2wd sees way worst than that every summer. I just wish my cottage road was that nice!

How fun! Note that when one guy (in the tug of war) pushes in his clutch that the other syncro can't even pull the other out of it's wheel ruts. I think this is video evidence of how street tires have almost zero traction when clogged with greasy mud.
"offroading" in a T4" (?) OK there is a little more action in this one, but an equally apt title might be "T4 Crossing a Bridge". I suppose a T4 Syncro would be preferable to 2WD, but only for snow, it sure doesn't look as off-road as the T3. _________________

Hi Eric,
Im trading quite much in T4 syncros at the moment. I buy them from the biggest electrical company here in sweden.
The TDI syncro came in 99. Most of the syncros before 99 in sweden are petrol, the 2,5 . Te petrol engine is ok but compared to the TDI its useless. I can tow 2,5ton on a trailer going uphill with the syncro ...just great. Revs a lot less then my T3 syncro TDI.
Difflock rear was an extra. The gearbox of the petrol and the diesel are tottaly different, even the backwards gear is on a different place. Very annoying if you drive petrols and diesels on the same day!
Rust is a problem on t4.

I am with Eric, A newer more modern truck would be nice. the T4's are set up for A/C in dash and all types of other upgrades. While they are a little ugly with the rear frame exposed, there are kits that close all of that in and give you lower service boxes as well.
I was looking at Vanamania's site last night and his going out of business must sell everything sale . If you look at the "other " photo's you will see a T4 Doka with no engine as part of his package deal. it looks like a 4 door but can not tell for sure.
I would love to have one but would be shunned by my T3 friends and I can not afford another toy. I would not want to part with my Tristar, but it is tempting.

Hi Stacy,
If you expect to sit better in an T4 instead of your tristar then forget it.
The seat position is totally differnt and is not as comfortable as in a T3 also the dash is more boring and only became better efter 99 with the blue lights. Think twice before you will trade in your tristar for a t4 , you will regret it.
Yes, the engine is superieur and they are good daily drivers but will not give you the fun and the smile which a t3 will give you everytime youre driving it.
You have been warned!!

Stacy,
I have to disagree. You should immediately sell your Tristar Syncro to me and go to Europe to get one of those ultrasweet T4 Dokas. They are calling you!
