Thanks.
I had another night in the garage, and here's how the engine looks at the moment:
Startup is getting closer
Here's a shot of the fuel pressure gauge, I just need a couple of 90 degree bends to hook it up cleanly:
Also a detail on the oil return line. As you can see, there is not much clearance to the pulley:
Then a shot from the underside:
And this was my sons project today: labelling my HW boxes:
So next up now is to hook up all the sensors etc for the ECU, then a startup is just around the corner (if I dare...)

| After sharing this whole story with so many of us, now that we are all on the edge of our seats, I hope you will have video posted of the first fire up of the motor. |

just one night in the garage so far this week... My wife has been away with her work, and I have thre little boys to look after...
But some details got done, and one of them was to hook up my 3rd brake light.
My intention is to use the car as much as I can, so I figured some safety thinking would be a good thing.
Here's how the rear end looks while braking:
as you can see, it indicates that most of the electrical system works too
and here's a close-up of the 3rd light:
I used a repro hella back-up light with a red lens.. I also have the clear lens, so I will see how it looks with red leds and the clear lens.
Finally, my son's project that night was to mount the engine surveillance instruments and hook them up:
It all works, and even the lighs dim while turning the knob
As you can see, I will need a new set of dash knobs... |

Grelland,
Are you using a fuel pressure regulator on each rail? I think that is what I see in the one photo? And is it vaccum operated?
I can't remember if I read it in your other thread or not, but what is the ECU? Megasquirt? |

No I have only one regulator, and yes it is vacuum operated. The fuel line comes in on the right hand side, through the rail on the #1 and 2 cylinders, over to the left hand side, through the # 3 and 4 rail, through a gauge, into the regulator, and back to the tank through the original line in the tunnel.
Yes, I will use Megasquirt II and MS Extra code to also control the timing. As you might see, I will chicken out and use a 009 for the initial startup...

finally an update, we have about 3ft of snow here, so many nights have been used behind my anxient snow-blower...
But tonight I got a few things done, and here's my "have done" list for today:
-Finally got the ecu to communicate with the laptop
-Downloaded updated FW to the ECU
-Downloaded all settings
-ALL sensor inputs worked
-Fuel Pump relay kicked in as planned
-Connected and dialled in the 009
-Connected some missing wires
-Added the missing oil lines to the breather box
-even hit the start button, and the engine turned over
Next thing now is to hook up the rest of the fuel system, and see if this thing runs. |

not quite
I had everything hooked up, but the first time I tried to fire it up, I had the fuel pump wired the wrong way around, so for some reason I was not able to build a fuel pressure...
When that was sorted, I discovered a couple of pinhole leaks in the original fuel line that I use as a return line, so now I will replace the line before my next attempt.
But it all looked good, and the ecu seems to to what it is supposed to, so I am still optimistic. Just wish I had more time... |

I have orded some new hoses and fittings, so while waiting for that, I have started on a couple of the other tasks, and first is the interior. I will place an order for a carpet kit and the missing rubbers shortly, so any advice on a decent carpet kit (oatmeal) is appreciated.
I also decided to let my wife trim the door panels, so I cut out new ones from water-resistant 6mm sheets.
Then I borrowed the following old tyre-balancer from a friend of mine:
I then placed one of my old spyder mags in the machine, and spun it while starting off with a 180 grit paper, working my way down to 2000 grit before I buffed it all up with some metal polish, and after abaout an hours worth of work, my wheel changed from this:
to this:
A vast improvement, but still not 100% the shine I am after.
In addition, there are a few pits and corrosion damage in the old wheels:
But I have not quite decided whether I should leave them in, as a testament to the history of these old wheels, or if I should aim for grinding down enough for these to go away... We'll see,
Other than that, are we down to about 2 ft of snow here, and the roads are bare, so spring is definately on its way |
