Well, Santa Cruz Type 2's had its first meeting today. 2 buses showed up and 3 members met at The Hook. We'll plan another meeting when the weather is good. To keep info accessible to everyone, let's use this forum as our base.

If anyone wants to schedule a meeting time and place, by all means, do it. I'm thinking BBQ sometime when the sun comes out.

We basically got to know each other and checked out our rides. We talked about getting together to work on our buses in the near future. And coming up with some stickers. Anyone good at design? I've got a local sticker guy. I was thinking the standard Lighthouse Point but with a few type 2's scattered about.

Let's get the caravan to Bus Fest going!

Spread the word to your other Santa Cruz bus friends that we're getting this thing going.

And...what about other VW's? I'm not anti, and it might be cool to get more people. Just throwing it out there. It's still going to be called SCruz Type 2's though. Wink

Yeah, it's kind of crappy weather. I'll show up today and see what happens. We'll schedule another meeting and hopefully it'll be sunny.

Tranny swap in the rain! Not too fun. That's the kind of stuff that would be cool to get the local buses together and help each other wrench on stuff. In the late 80's and all of the 90's when I was heavy into the bus scene, we would always have a group of VW guys around. We'd show up and have some cool-ones and wrench, share tools and parts. Let's get that going again!

We'll keep trying.

cool does anyone feel like trading their 150+hp engine/trans combo for my stock 1600dp t-1 with a 57 crashbox tranny Laughing

back in reality i got my buggy on the road(somewhat illegally) and found a few more problems. if the weather gets good and i stay motivated i could probabally make a meet at the end of next month as long as i dont have to drive to far( that crashbox doesnt have synchros and im pretty new to stick cars).

dang! Sorry I couldn't make it. I got deep into replacing the brakes on my 67 and broke the main front to rear line! Sad The weather would have stopped me anyway, but I had grand plans of completing the brakes and taking the maiden voyage with new brakes. I'm definitely into more meetings and wrench days. Tool sharing can be huge. For example, I've got the steering wheel puller, center pin ream and mig welder, among other things, and I'm happy to help out. BBQ at a local park when the weather shapes up sounds good, or another meet at the hook if the weather is questionable.

I'm ok with other VWs, but have an affinity for pre-68. I own and have owned bugs and actually have a special long term bug project. If it gets more people involved it would be a good thing, and we can always get them into a bus!

Let's use this forum page, but how about an email list as well? Lot's of people may not check here regularly, so if we can send out a group email for a meet we may get more success. I will volunteer to put that together if everyone agrees. If so you can PM me your contact info (name and email address).

As a final note I do know a few graphic designers. I even made some bed slats for one of them, but for what we want it will probably be expensive. Let's wait and see who we can find in our midst that can provide guidance.

See you all soon!

Right on Rick! All sounds good. An email list would be good too. Once we get dialed, this is going to be cool. I notice a young-one in the bus in your avatar. I've got a 2.5 year old, Randy has 3 boys right around there, SCZ has a couple of kids. I have a vision of them all playing while we wrench Wink

SCZ's coming over for a little welding project this week. And we're welding new floors in Randy's '65 when the weather lightens up.

Very Happy sweet! Yes, that's my oldest son Owen in the picture. He's turning 4 in march, and I have another son who is 18 months old. Owen already likes to wrench. In fact, he was "helping" whilst I destroyed my rear brake line this weekend. He already thinks that you can't work on a vw without breaking it or your tools, so I'd say he pretty much "gets it". I've got a big garage and driveway out in the country which is perfect for kids to play and work on VWs.

Krusher is also in the states for an extended stay and he's been doing some welding on my single cab in exchange for my cabinet work. Glad to hear that there is other work being done in this town. We'll try to get together again soon!

Glad to see the progress. I would be way into a wrenching day. Working on this car is what I do for fun and usually I just have a radio keeping me company. I would prefer to open the group to all air-cooled. There are many ghias and Type 1's floating around town. There even is a really cool Elmers Glue and Eveready battery type 3 on the westside behind arrow surf shop. Keep posting in this thread and I'll probably be at the next meet. (Granted the next sunny weekend day I'll be finishing up my trans...)
I'm looking forward to keeping this going.

I think I've seen that vw behind arrow surf shop. Diddn't know it was electric Shocked

So who here has Verutti's old 58 single cab? It was pretty rusty and it's at a local body shop getting worked on now (I won't name the shop in case this person wants to keep a low profile). I buy beer for some of my suppliers from Verutti and always talk to him about VW's. Just curious if the new owner is on the Samba.

If weekend work best for everyone then I could probably make it Saturday or Sunday. I'm not sure what the weather is going to be like, but we could rally for the weekend and firm up a time later this week. I'm still trying to get my 67 back on the road since it is my only all weather bus!

I'm ready whenever. Maybe this weekend? I flagged down a Binz on Ocean the other day and told him. I think he thought I was going to mug him. Laughing Where are you Binz guy?

I told August, he's into it. Shout out to the Mt Madonna Posse! I know you're on her D. There's a cool mango guy I told the other day, and a guy with a black and white '66 homebuilt camper.

How about VolksCafe on here. Where are you J? Dean is on here too I bet??
There's a blue and white '67(?) here in Aptos that I never see drive. Time to drive it dude!

How about the 'Transporter Hippy Club' out on Eureka Canyon?? Remember those guys from back in the day? Any of those guys still around?

And where the hell is Big Graham??? Someone tell BG I'm lookin for him. Time to have a pint BG!

Where's the bright white/ green stripe single cab guy? I met him once in the late '90's and see him around all the time.

How's that singlecab coming along at the K's Body??

Where's Krusher? Is he still in town??

We've got a good amount of buses!!

As a group maybe we can help out with Red Barn if it goes down since it's in our back yard.

Time to rally the troops.

Pick a day!

Actually Krusher will be flying back to his hometown coming this weekend for about 6-months (?), or so I heard.
Krusher makes the drive up to our BLTN Thursday night meets in his barndoor.

Right on NorCal! It's time for us to have a pint too. I'll wield some tails of the SST over a pint of Boulder Creek's finest!

There was a gooseneck trailer on a dually coming over HWY 17 with a barndoor and a binz(??) a few weeks ago. Who was that? You here? I was hauling arse the opposite direction, so my ID might be inaccurate.

Transporter Hippy Club dude was named Bill I think. Last contact was mid 90's. He had a bunch of stuff stashed away in the redwoods. Anyone know Santa Cruz bus history? Alright it's time to call the oracle of all things Santa Cruz VW. Stand by...

dang jeremy, you're spotting all of them! So let me get this straight, you saw not one but two binz's in the area? Crazy. I spot very few buses, but know a few of the ones you mentioned.

the 58 at the body shop used to be Veruttis. I dropped by last week and it is all apart: bed panels, back cab wall, and a bunch of other stuff. Lot's of gerson panels going in that one.

I know of hippy bill and have a friend, lucas graham, that can get in touch with him.

I'll see Krusher tomorrow, but he is leaving the country thursday.

The green/white single cab I used to see at San Lorenzo fairly often until about 3 years ago. never met the guy.

In any case the weather may be decent this weekend. How about Sunday for a meet up? 2 or 3 in the afternoon is always good for me. Location?

...then down Old San Jose rd to my place! I live just off of it and to anyone ever doing a cruise it's the road to take from the summit down into the area. Nice and smooth and curvy, and gets you away from the crazy people on 17.

Yep! I've seen 2 doubles. The one I saw driving on Ocean looks like a new bus owner. I've seen it twice and talked to him that once. Each time coming down 17 or Graham Hill--that area.

This Sunday at 3?? Where at?

Rick, do you and Krusher have time for a beer today or tomorrow before he leaves?
