|
|
I only have the haynes vw bug manual and i dont think it has all the torque spec's i need:
-rear brake backing plate bolts (also hold bearing cap etc)
-tie rod nylon locking nuts (how do you hold the shaft still while putting nut on???)
-rear bearing retainer onto spring plate bolts
-top/bottom nuts and bolts for front/rear dampers
-huge transmission mount bolts and smaller tranny mount nuts (onto the pan studs)
If there is anywhere i can find all of these and more, that would be great.
Thanks! |

If you have 6mm oil pump studs, do not attempt to tighten them to 14 ft lbs.
They are tightened 5 ft lbs. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

Correct!
Only tighten the 8mm nuts to 14 LB FT _________________ Only a fool or a child would judge a project before it reaches its completion.

What if you have a trike, IRS system, believed to be early 70's, but the brake drums are the wide 5 bolt pattern of late 60's.
I had replaced bushings, seals, and inner/outer wheel bearings and went to torque down the axle nut, but no torque wrench around to get 217lbs on the nut.
So I guestimated, used the math to find the standing point on a bar, and got it tightened, but still had to go more to get pin in the hole.
My wife bought me a larger torque wrench, so went out and backed off the axle nut a bit, than went to tighten to the 217lbs torque, wow, a hole lined up for the pin. Thought I had it, but when I push/pull on the outer edge of the drum I still got a bit of movement. Like still loose............could it be wear on all parts involved over time leading to a little play.....or because of the set up they require a bit more torque so all is tight???
I have torqued the nut more, 10lbs at a time, to the 250lbs point, kinda still fill this play, not in and out on the axle shaft, but on outer edge of drum.
I just did all this to help remove negative camber, wonder if some is just wear from time, or do I torque that axle nut up until all is tight ???? |
