You're still trying way too hard to try and insult me, mongoloid. It's kinda pathetic.
Go back to the SEWR and tell some poop jokes. That's what you're better suited for. _________________ -Thomas

| RoachGhia wrote: | So now that I have the 17s to use as street tires, I decided that I could put slicks on my Fuchs to autocross with. Except the front wheels were 15x6 and I wanted more traction in the front, so I found a cheap pair of 15x7 cookie cutters on craigslist and used them for fronts. Now I've got 225/50/15 Kumho Victoracers on the front and rear of my bug, and it grips like a champ!
So I got the slicks mounted, added a front sway bar and a new driver's seat, and took it to another autocross. It still understeers pretty badly, so I need to look into adding some camber to the front and increasing the spring rate some more. Here's some pictures from the last race:
those last two shots show the car under hard cornering. Notice that it's not leaning over very much. That's partially because the front end is not gripping enough, and partly due to the big swaybars. |
nice action shots. i like this beetle. _________________ 1965 panel bus-Kermit

Thanks man. Everything will be fine. We've got a little money saved, and we've got help from family. Things will change a bit, as far as spending money goes, and we might have to move somewhere with cheaper rent, but nothing will be terrible. It's not like I have to sell my cars and move my family under a bridge or anything! _________________ -Thomas

Thanks man! I couldn't agree more.
I drove the rag to my uncle's funeral this weekend. It's been in storage for months now, and it was nice to get it out and running again. He was an old school hot rodder, and always gave me shit for "playing with those little beetle bugs." But he loved to see younger generations wrenching on their hot rods, so I drove it to his funeral in his honor.
Haven't gotten a whole lot of progress done lately, mostly just been collecting parts and doing research while the bug sits under a car cover collecting spider webs. The 2270 Type 4 engine from my Deerslayer Ghia will be getting torn apart for the rebuild in the next couple of weeks, and I will post pictures of that. But I did get one little detail done:
Made a vert decklid out of a fatchick decklid and a dented 64 decklid for about $40 so far. Although, I am still going to weld another set of vents behind the license plate, because it'll get more air that way especially since it'll be directly in front of the 911 fan. Still not quite ready for paint, but it's close. A little finishing putty, some block sanding, and some more grinding down on the backside and it'll be on the car.
Can't wait to put this thing back on the road. On the way back from the service, I ripped 2nd gear for about 40 feet on some wet pavement, all sidways and stupid. I miss driving it. _________________ -Thomas

Sorry to hear about the job loss, that sucks.
You go to the UFO events at Marina, huh? I went a couple of times last year in my WRX........ I suck and my car is not set up for autocross. We also bring our 57 Chevy 210 Wagon, it does ok. Next time we go out, I'll look for you. Everyone tells me I should bring out my Fatty, I don't know..... I might. Here's a pic of the wagon and a video someone captured and put on youtube.

Why does it say 1959? is that just a video error? Also, pretty nice looking turning in the beast! It says something about s10, is that sitting on an s10 chassis? _________________ http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=366056 - My '73 Super Build. 2332cc, 16" Fuchs |

Whoever took the video got it all wrong. We don't get it either, but it's decent footage. The wagon has the factory Chevrolet frame that has been modified to accept the suspension from a C-4 Corvette. This is a link to where I work and where the wagon hails from.

That wagon is badass!! I have a soft spot for station wagons, especially when they're sporty. And that Corvette suspension definitely qualifies as sporty! I'd love to see your car run, but I moved out to modesto when I got laid off, so I will be running at Castle Airforce Base this season, and most likely won't make it out to Marina. Hope to move back to Santa Cruz someday soon though. BTW, this is my daily driver wagon, it's much more baby-friendly, since I am a stay at home mom these days:

Thanks man!! I really appreciate that. I hope to get some better quality pictures of it the next time I race. I am even considering pulling the rear sway bar off, just to get a super high wheelie shot. With the slicks, I think I could get the front wheel 6 inches or more off the ground. _________________ -Thomas
