there was one on a recent episode of 'Fringe'. Some homeless folks where living around it. Do you notice a trend here, Sci fi, vampires, strange. The only remotely wholesome was Magnum P.I., but two odd characters living together with an owner who is only a voice, constantly getting beat up and shot at, never able to achieve a relationship with one woman.....

So what is Hollywood telling us?

Beat me to it Rhino, it was a panel too! Although... one shot made it look like it might not have been an original panel vanagon. The engine noise that it made as it drove off didn't sound all that authentic either. Cool to see though!

I think VW had some paid placements in Angels and Demons. The panel van seems like the perfect bad guy van.

I THINK there might have been one in Taken. I rented it the other night but I also had a few Kasteel Rouge's that night as well.

recently there was an episode of "independent lens" on PBS in which some Iraqis were driving around Iraq in a blue doka. overall the story was about the owner of the doka and his internal struggle w/ his religion / politics etc. the doka was in the show alot.

I just rented a cult classic from the early 90's "Run Lola Run" starring that little german vixen Franke Potente. (who 15 years later was the hottie in Bourne Identity Wink )

If you are a geeky independant film lover like myself you are prolly familiar with "Run Lola Run" allready, but this viewing was the first time I noticed a Blue Westy in the scene where Lola gets shot, there is also a green AC Vanagon hardtop several times in the running scenes.

Rolling Eyes I'm such a dork.

How about the Van in The Delta Force? Man that thing got peppered with a million rounds of machine gun ammo and it kept on going and going.

The bad guys were shitty shots or the tires were made outa some super secret military rubber.

I was going to say this. I just saw it. And when they showed the autobahn from video footage in the 80's, there were a bunch cruising down there.

I wonder how much that magnum PI paint job would cost. I have access to a paint shop/body shop, where all I have to do is buy paint/body work supplies, and I have free access to guns, spray room, welder, etc... I'd love to replicate the paintjob.

This is completely random, but...

In the first Charlie's Angels movie, the Angels dress in lederhosen and dance in front of some scientist's house while Bill Murray plays a polka on tuba. Behind them sits a dark blue late-model passenger Vanagon. I, for one, appreciate the detail of sticking with the German theme throughout the scene. Very Happy

In the end of Me, Myself, and Irene when Jim Carry fights himself in the Mustang there is a red Carat in the background for a good 10 sec.

"man they really bash the air cooled's in that article."

I know, but hey, I thought my aircooled was pretty sluggish too, but then I fell in love with it.

There are two reasons to go and see the movie "Invictis" . It is a great movie with some great actors with a great story to tell and it has some cool Vanagon footage.
A double win in my book.

Documentary on PBS.. I saw several months ago.

About an Afghani (I think it was based in Afghanistan) who had saved enough money to buy himself a truck.. A baby blue doka with a diesel in it.

Lots of money shots of him proudly driving his truck around, collecting cardboard and delivering goods.

Even had a shot of him checking around the engine bay with some of his friends.

And this was with the same guy who drove the VW's in the original endless summer. He owned the first VW dealership in S.A. from what I recall.
