It's your bus, go for it. I'd like to see how it turns out. If you do it put up a build thread.

That's so funny, I toggle back & forth between the bay window bus threads and the bay window bus ads, I just read this and went to the ads this was #1 http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=789703
Very Happy

Hey- Be patient -I bought my first bus a 71 sunroof in November it's running rough and a panel van came up on Craigslist this Monday and on Tuesday it was home in Reseda. Love that AAA flatbed! See my post tomorrow for pics!

The point is: They come up from time to time in any given year and you can find one: Relatively rare -yes.
Unobtainable no!

Keep rolling and keep your nose open and your eyes to the grindstone! Wink

Oh no why did you have to go and post that?! suddenly I'm feeling sick I may have to miss work tomorrow. Not so sick that I couldn't take a little trip to Lake Elsinore. Heck I live 15 min from San Marcos. Have they got bays? Is it like ecology where you can walk the yard with your toolbox and take off whatever you want?

No. Interstate is a an all VW yard in lake elsinore, and they have an office in san Marcos where sometimes they have some stuff, usually they just have you pick it up there. You can't just walk around the yard and pick things though-- they do all that and you get to sit in the office.

I've had several dealings with them, hit or miss. Prices are... a little higher than normal, but the fact is that they usually do have what you need. As far as what it is you're getting.... their idea of "rust free!" and "useable!" are entirely different from the majority of hobbyists.... east coast people might disagree but there you go.

Mack, they probably have over 70 bays in their yard. ive been going there sinve back when their yard was in Vista in the mid 90's. Its baywindow heaven! word of caution you will get sick from seeing all the dead bays wasting away.

If any of you guys are still having those "crazy thoughts" there is a 70 double door panel sitting at Ecology in Chula Vista. Completely gutted but has plenty of good metal on it, especially rear body panels:
