This engine never turned a wheel on the car.
GEX thrust bearing.
GEX crank. Look at the spacer behind the pulley.
GEX case.
Aluminum melted onto the rod from the previous engine failure. You can see the fine polish on the first main of the crank.

If this engine was run and tested as they advertise, then why has one piston never been fired.
This engine came out of a burned car.

This shook Blankmange up when I posted it in the photos of his engine build. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

Back in high school I bought a GEX 1835, turnkey with hydraulic lifters and Dellorto 40's... Lasted all of 118 miles and had intermittent valve noise since day one. Melted #3 piston and left me stranded so I tore into it... I found 2 10 mm. self tapping head studs, the rest were 8 mm of which 3 were epoxied into the case, 2 mismatched heads with different valve sizes and apparently the 3/4 side had been valve jobbed to death as the valves were sunk as much as .250! the number 3 rod was installed upside down, the oil pump had 2 6mm studs and 2 8 mm studs, the 6's were gooped with clear silicone to attempt to quell the leaks. The hydraulic lifters were Chevy units that never stayed pumped, hence the almost constant lifter chatter. No main stud o rings installed and wallowed out main bearing dowel holes, and mains cut to .060. This was about 18 years ago and the engine cost me about $3500 or so, which is huge money when you're 16. Their excuse? High performance, no warranty. The dual Dells however were mint, so I guess 4 grand for some DRLA's was just to teach me a lesson... _________________ Southside Buggistas VW & kit car club

Undoubtedly one they didn't rebuild. They probably got an original VW core, powerwashed it (plugs out, naturally), and slapped a sticker on it. _________________ Not enough car seats fit into my:
