I was working around Dayton, OH yesterday when this passed me. I followed the guy for miles until he finally stopped at a shopping center. We stood and talked for almost and hour. Story is it was going to be in an estate sale. He got to it first. It had been sitting in the garage for more than 30 years, all original (Amazon Green) and untouched. The lady told him to take everything VW with him also. He said every inch of the interior (including the paint on the doors and dash) are 100% factory original. The only repair he did was straighten a dent on the LF corner and replace the headlight bucket and turn signal mount. It was an absolutely stunning car.

I hope you insisted he post more pictures and the ongoing story in the Ghia Forum. |
He said he visits the Samba regularily, but is not a registered user. I turned him on to Aussie Trimmer for some bits that he is looking for. He also knows Scott Dempster and Mike Gregory and has purchased from them. He's looking for the door pull straps and the outer window scrapers. His plan is to have it finished in the spring and ready for the show at Larry's Off Road.
If anyone knows of those, let me know. I got his business card and can call him. _________________ As a nation, we have politically corrected ourselves to death.

Well if he is reading this...as no doubt he will, register here and you'll be amongst many enthusiasts with much in common.
Finding those elusive bits is easy when you have a lot of people following your project.
I hope Patrick has the numbers. _________________ John.

| It was neat to meet the OVALBOY yesterday. I was on my way to several top shops for estiments for an original new top. The body work and paint was done by C&D COLLISION. The shop owner fell in love with the job and it shows. It was totaly stripped, two types of primer,3coats of color,3 coats of clear, sanded with 1000 then 2500 and buffed. Found front NOS turn signals in Italy "OUCH".It will have two engines, one modifyed and balenced. All the running gear has been done by myself. Yes there will be more pictures when I learn how to do it. I will be using the original seats and door panels(all in tact)for now as they are part of it's story. More later. RKT PS All the electrics work, radio, clock, ect. |

That was quick. Welcome to the forum, which I'm sure you will know is brim full of Lowlight expertise.
There's a "Sticky" at the top of the Ghia section that will guide you through posting pictures to the Samba Gallery and posting them in forum topics.
If you make a hash of posting them at the beginning (as we all have) just click on a link for one of the Ghia moderators and they'll put you on the right track.
Be warned...this place is addictive. _________________ John.

| You're right this will get to be so much fun I won't have time to work on the "Amazon Wonder". I do need some tricks to the trade for putting the windshield back in with new German rubber.I read and hear it is a trip! I have done many Bug windowshields but no Ghias.Just to sweeten the story I have the canceled check paid to Motor Imports in Dayton, the owners manual, sch and instalation book for the German radio. Most of the chrome, bumpers etc have been replated. Thanks guys for all your help. RKT |

It's pretty straightforward with the German blocked rubber as long as you put the chrome trim in first. Have a look at Grelland's rebuild thread:

It's such a rarity to have a full history of the car...very satisfying reading. _________________ John.

Beautiful car and we hope to see more of it. Nice to hear the body shop guys basically fell in love with the car and aren't hacking it, meaning "they know how to fix it right". _________________ -

Why? He will post it with a partial number without the owners permission anyways. _________________ It's not about the window, it's about the people.

Yes I can, "knock his enthusiasm" He did it with my car and probably others since they are on the WWW, but where he got my VIN and posting the first 4 numbers is wrong without my permission on his website, that is where he crossed the line. _________________ It's not about the window, it's about the people.
