That car is bad ass! I too am running 16x6 Fuchs with 205/50r16 Goodyears on the front of my car with a 4 inch beam and CB drop spindles and disk brakes, and 16x7 inch Fuchs with 205/55r16 Goodyears on the rear mounted on redrilled drums. I am in the process of installing short axles on my '67 so the rear wheels will tuck under the rear fenders. When I am finished restoring my car, I hope it looks half as cool as yours. The alpine white with the polished Fuchs is a great combination.

Thank you for the compliments. My car is beige grey... The same color typically seen on a sealing wax red/beige grey bus.
Post some pics when you're done... We need to keep this thread going |

Thanks, it now belongs to my friend Jose. Here in FL for the most part they've been keeping up on road maintenance except for a few places. After you install shorter axles it will look even better! _________________ pimp

just out of curiousity does anyone with the narrowed beam and wider rear track get more road wander then when stock width? Seems my 67 long axle with 225/50's and 2in narrow beam with 205's seems to have more wander(mostly highway (65-75mph) then when it was stock width with empi 5's and cb dropped spindles. I figure same situation with 3-4 in narrowed beams and earlier short axle cars. Yes it was aligned, wheels balanced, steering box adjusted for 1inch of wheel movement. Anyone wander more then stock width???

Did you use caster shims? Is the steering damper new? Just asking 'cause of the stance/rake of the car, also remember that with a light car and wide tires you will wander some depending on the roads. If the caster shims are in place, the steering damper is new and the steering box is good you can tighten it a bit more, i personally do not like much play. _________________ pimp

caster shims- check new steering stabilizer (year old)- check, steering box tight- check. I took it for a long ride yesterday i think the balljoints since they are new are pretty stiff and that is contributing to some stiffness as they are getting better every drive but after 50miles or so are pretty stiff yet. Car tracks very straight and i have to remember its not my subaru wrx with modded suspension. Before when i had 145's spindles and drums you tend to drive slower and expect less. Im sure the wider rear end leads to some "dartierness" maybe when i redo the tire combo i'll do the 195/50 205/55's that i had planned and will most likely help out as well.... thanks for the advise its always appreciated.

it's mostly the 205s up front thats causing it to find every rut in the road. wider wheel/tire up front will do it every time. if all the stuff you mentioned is indeed new it may get somewhat better but with 205s up front it's gonna wander. the 195s may help some. there are 175/55/16s available but they are expensive...ken.... _________________ ITMC

So I have a 70 beetle with IRS, and the axle sticks out and pushes the cap off..... Any adapters out there for the cap, or this there a shorter axle you can use on IRS? I can't run a spacer behind the wheel because the rim wheel stick too far out beyond the fender, any help is apperciated.
Wheels 16 inch fuchs off a 911 6's ET43 in the front and 7's ET44 in the rear. |

Ill see if i can get some pics of how far the the axle sticks out, but I would say about 1/4 inch, wont be able to get to till this weekend I think... I already know I will have to smaller tires on it and looks as though it will barely clear doing that.
Also are lug bolts ok to mount the 911 fuchs? Or is press in studs the way to go, and if so what is the proper length studs to use? |

Always use studs, they are safer. The length of the studs depend on the wheel & nut combo, the shoulder length depends on the drum. You don't want the splines protruding beyond the drum or hub into the wheel. And if the nut is a "closed end" style (not open) you need to make sure it does not bottom out on the stud and that it seats correctly on the wheel tightly. _________________ pimp
