For all those with late bays and looking to refinish your cabinets- Glamour Cherry 6208 by Formica - its one of the newest grains and a pretty close match, a little more red, but close enough for me!

Wow! That looks great. I really like the way you've done the headliner.
Is that little gray light one of those 12V LEDs from Home Depot?

thanks, had a ton of extra formica, so did a top layer on all the old headliner.
battery operated led light  got a three pack at freddies for 8 bucks. |

Hey, thanks for posting that. I've ordered some samples of Formica's new colors, but it's really good to see it installed. The old Colonial Cherry was a better match. You're right - it's a bit red, but -- beggars can't be choosers.

I agree with the last post. I little more red than OG but looks fantastic.
I am in Oregon City and would love to see it in person. I also ordered a sample from Home Depot in Oregon City as they were out when I called earlier in the week.

Thanks, nothing like new formica! I ordered the 5X12 sheet, which did all the cabinet doors, the full back side cabinet, and the entire headliner from back to front, some of the side paneling and behind the icebox, the stool, and some scraps left over. If you wanna do the entire van, I would recommend ordering two sheets of the 5X12. 1 sheet was about $135 bucks ordered through Home Depot here in Beaverton, I believe you can get it in a 4X8 as well. Any Home Depot will order it for you, just call and talk to the kitchen specialists. Also, you wanna pick up a big container of contact cement, nasty stuff, but works well. I think the old formica fades after time, including some of its red, so its an even closer match when you compare to the formica that hasn't been exposed to the sun over the years. Overall, im happy I ordered and went with it, good luck to you all.

Another pic. also another tip when taking off the formica from your cabinets, iron will work, but pretty slow process, heater gun is quicker than an iron, but if you want fast, try using a blow torch, and not in one area too long, or you'll burn the wood. Using a blow torch, it took only a few minutes to take off the old formica from all cabinet doors.

I recently bought some of this formica -- but it's really shiny. Did you request a particular finish for this when you bought it? Also, I noticed the new propane tank. Looks great. $400?  |

Awesome job, it looks sweet. I really like the headliner. I also noted your front seats were not stock. What ya sitting on up there? Just curious, but will the passenger seat swivel all the way around (i.e. face backwards not a 360)

| Ok so I am a noob. I really like the look of the headliner. Is the formica a very thing "laminate" that you would apply to a substrate? Do you just place it up there and screw it in? Where did you find the "T" type moldings and surrounds? Good Job on the bus and I am very envious. |

It isn't too thick, usually about a 16th of an inch. You attach it by gluing it to the substrate. White glue varieties will actually work well to join laminate and substrate, but usually pressure is applied in a press to ensure a good bond. Contact cement will hold well, and doesn't require the pressure, but you need to line it up very carefully before joining the laminate to the substrate, because it will not slide once it's in contact. |
