A couple of pics of me driving it.

We had a great time even though we are two wheel drive. met some very nice people. we will be making a return trip next year. _________________ 85 GL Westfauxlia 1.9L

Great pics and video! My first time at NWMF as well. Good times, great rigs, and I was VERY impressed with just what a Syncro can handle! _________________ '85 Westy

I concur wholeheartedly. It was also my first time and I will post pics as well. Got an epic ride in TristarEric's G Wagen. Incredibly nimble and made it through everything the big boys could. I mean everything.
The highlight of the trip was meeting and riding in Lucas, GOWESTY, Westy Syncro through the most ridiculously technical terrain, through rivers, up and down and sideways over Mountains! HOLY SHIT! I could not believe that I was in a Syncro Westy with the Rock Star of the Vanagon Westfalia community. He was so down to earth and it was nice to see him test everything he sells. Thanks Lucas. Funny, when I met him I said..."So you are the asshole...". It took a bit to explain to him that this is a term of endearment and I meant it only with love and respect. I explained that I only dream of having some of his fine products on my van someday soon. It only took about 30 seconds to convince him to let me get back in the Van for the ride of my life. Great guy!
My first trip through the nearly as ridiculous terrain I mentioned above was with GWTWTLW(Pete's)Westy Syncro. I am still stunned and incredibly horny at the same time to get one of these.
Pics to follow. I am sure TristarEric will start a thread as well as he was out there for a few days _________________ Jeffrey Carter PDX Thread

I had some better video,or so I thought. loose connection at the battery made the video camera act wacky and we "lost" some of the best video. my shots of a few of the syncros is coming. not very many mind you. got some great vids of Eric's rig. man that thing just crawled right through that stuff. I will post that in a day or two,if it's o.k. by him. _________________ 85 GL Westfauxlia 1.9L

There was an icecream truck driving around most of the weekend. Didn't see it in the pit though.
That was way too much fun! I fully went there with the expectaion that I wasn't going to be able to do too much without lockers but I also knew that was the place to see what I could do knowing that you were never out of eyesight of someone more than happy to pull you out of whatever you were stuck in. I was pleasantly surprised at what I was able to do with just airing down my BFG's. The one time I did get stuck was probably more driver error than vehicle failure. I was too worried about doing a face plant on the descent that I didn't have enough momentum going back up. Front lockers would have gotten me out of it for sure but it whould have been doable without. My wish list of parts just got a lot longer... _________________ 89 Syncro Westy - GW 2.5

Can you scale down those first few pics? it takes a few minutes for us to see...
Good times, record number of Syncro's this year (and 2wd's). We had an excellent trail ride friday in Tillamook as well. 15 Syncro's on the trail ride, is a new record.
I gave so many rides in the G-wagen I lost count after about the 50th... I'm already looking forward to next year. If you've never been to a Mogfest, mark your calender, and plan to be there.
I finally got to meet a few people that I've only e-mailed or spoken to, it's always nice to put a face to a name.
I want to see more pics of the G, I was so busy giving rides I didn't have much time for picture taking. Post em up if you got em!

Eric
I have a hard time scaling them down, don't have a good imaging software program. video and audio are my medium. I got some video of your G. I can throw something together and post it later if you like. I went over to talk to you about the G and your Doka, but you were walking the other way by the time I made it there. I was going to ask for a ride as well!!
the fourth pic shows the left front up off the ground.

Yup, Fun times. I had a blast even though I could only stay for half of Saturday. I taught my 15 year old how to drive offroad with lockers and he did a bunch of the hill climbs and descents with engine braking, as well as some river driving. It was relatively easy with a Gwagen with an auto trans, we will see how he does in the syncro next year.
This was my third year, I'll try to get the whole weekend in 2010.
Worth going if you haven't been. _________________ 1989 Syncro Westfalia

It was my first time at mogfest as well. I must say I am very impressed with how all the rigs were doing. Well worth the 3 hour drive there. The people there were great, and the hospitality was excellent. Even got to drive a couple mogs. Thanks to everyone that put it on, i'll be going back next year. _________________ garage:

Oh, and I almost forgot.......I ended up horning in on the HS Jazz band that was playing at the pit and ended up singing Rappers Delight with them as a lil' Nightcap......Any of you guys catch that? The band was really great and it was surprising that they were so young. Good money will be paid for video of that performance! which will be immediately destroyed~ _________________ Jeffrey Carter PDX Thread
