I have the Berg bars that Dave listed above on my buggy. They are a bolt on item. (They supply you with a new rear tranny mount, that the bars slip into, and then there are pins holding the bars into the tranny mount. )
Be aware that they stick out pretty far. They do seem to work pretty well at keeping the light front end of my buggy down.
If I were to do it again, I would just make my own. $500 and some change for the berg ones is pretty steep for what you actually get.

Some years back at a car show there was a street buggy with home made wheelie bars made from single leaf springs on each side and a hard rubber wheels bushed through the leaf curled end. The other end was fit to a female receiver welded to the frame horns and held in with a large pin. |

I made mine from a set of competition emgineering chrome spring loaded. The mount is a solid transaxle mount that I welded on a section of 1-1/4" sq tubing. I made my own end mounts out of a set of sprint car
engine mounts. I tacked welded the sq tubing to the mount then bolted the wheelie bars to the end plates, set the wheelie wheels to the highest setting, then tacked all in place then took it all of and tig welded it. I also driilled two additional holes in the end plates for more adjustment if needed. They sit level with the car. Also I welded in adjustable rods to tie it into the frame in the front so there is no twisting. I'k\ll have to put them back on to take pics. |

How wide should I make the 1-1/4 square bar that is welded to the tranny mount. I want to make shure it will clear the motor. I do not have a motor in the car yet. If any body has pics I would love to see them.
I see the berg wheelie bars and like them, any body have dimentions on them. |

Berg uses 1 1/2" tubing and is 24" long. They use 1 1/4" tubing piece that is welded to the wheelie bar brackets and slips into the 1 1/2" bar and uses aircraft pin locks to hold them in place.
If you buy wheelie bars from somewhere else such as JEGS, you need to measure the width of them and use those measurements.

Mine is not the usual buggy, it is mid engined. But the wheelie bar mount is pretty cool and can be done on the bottom of the trans forks on the rear engine set up.

I made mine. I bought the Berg mount & the 2 ends that slide into it & made the rest. See streetmanx2442cc turbo with NOS in this section for pic's. There are a few in there. Being able to adjust one side or the other has been a great help keeping the car strait when I leave. _________________ 1960 vw Manx

The bar is 24 1/2" wide. I just bought the trans mount with the wheelie bar welded on & the 2 ends that slide into it. It just seemed easier & qiucker to me. The rest of the stuff is easy to make. _________________ 1960 vw Manx

Here is the wheely bar on my buggy. I have yet to use it (don't beat on my buggy, too expensive to fix parts when they break!), but might someday when I get brave.
