It's still coming. I've got the dash all together, the electrical wired up and one of the doors together. I took a month off of building it to do some other stuff. I'm hoping to have it done in time for the Vegas show in October. In the next week or so I'm gonna mate the body and pan together and get the headliner done. _________________ Make fun of my 58 project here

Alright. So I'm gonna stop calling time frames because I'm always off. Anyways I've got this stuff further along now. But enough chitter chatter here are the pics and there are lots of them. So I'm gonna string a few posts together with the past few weeks worth of work. It took a while because I've been pretty busy and have only been able to put in a few hours here and a few hours there type of stuff.

All the pictures down below here are for some prototype parts. They are a knock off of the Berg Industrial shields. They block the heat from the J tubes getting to the pushrod tubes. Trick shit if you ask me. Call Awesome Powdercoat if you want a set of your own. I do believe he was planning on making them as something to sell.

Man, this car is going to be a beautiful piece of machinery when it's done. I wish I had that much disposable income! Can't wait to see the final product. _________________ "Come to terms with your Ass, for it bears you." - John Muir

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. It's been a long road getting it to this point. After slapping the body on we sat back ate some pizza, drank some beer and admired the fact that it finally became one piece. It was a good feeling, I don't mind tellin ya. Because at times it seemed endless. Still got a ways to go but it looks like a car now and I couldn't be happier. _________________ Make fun of my 58 project here

Ok so here is the final update for a about half a year or so. I'm outta here on Thursday to do some business and the car has been put into a giant ziploc bag. I have a bit more done to it than what is in these pictures, like the hood and decklid are on it now and the headlights are in, but I took no pictures of it. The car currently has a cover on it and all the parts I have left to install now live inside of it. See you on the other side and thanks for lookin at it.

First off, great looking bug. Top notch work on everything, perfect color choice, awesome stance. This thread should be an example to everyone on how to build one right.
Second, flipping through your photos (and BTW, thanks for posting so many!) and seeing the color struck a major chord. I also have a 58 that I repainted it's stock color, matched from one of the last places with factory paint. I always thought it was Diamond Green, even though VW discontinued that color in 57. I thought it could be close to Diamond Grey except for the green in it. Then I read your post:
| lawn.ninja wrote: | | The way it mixed up from PPG formula was too blue, the diamond grey had a greenish gold pearl to it, from the examples I had seen, so we looked at the inside of some of the OG parts to get an idea and then matched it to them. It took a few different paint mixtures to get the color right, but we documented it so more can be mixed up if needed. |
I had never seen any hint of green in other Diamond Grey bugs until I saw yours. Your car looks like it almost exactly matches mine. You are sure this is a good match to Diamond Grey? And that Diamond Grey in fact did have some green-gold hues to it? I would post up a photo on my 58 but I didn't want to hijack your build thread. If you want to see it it's in my photos - "my 58 in the garage". Let me know what you think. |
