The shifter with one bend in it is the correct one. The one with the less acute bend (straighter overall; actually has two curves to it) is a Beetle item and not correct for the KG.
FWIW, the shifter knob and heater knob pictured on the Beetle shift lever are also either Beetle or pre-September 16 1957 KG items, technically not stock for a later Lowlight. And the shifter base would have been painted L41 black, not beige. _________________ Dave |

Indeed, Mike, were you intending to get deep into "correct" details, your car would have had the second version (meaning Non-Beetle) knobs throughout, and in any event would have had the KG-specific shift lever, which sits a bit shorter and "feels" sportier and more direct in use.
Having the Geburtsurkunde at your disposal is useful! Enclosed with the M355 "US Equipment" by a car of this manufacturing date would have been options
M20 - Speedometer/Odometer calibrated in Miles
M138 - Sealed Beam headlamp mounting ring
M139 - Sealed Beam Headlamp Assembly
M950 - Laminated glass front windscreen
M951 - Driver's side exterior mirror
M952 - Bumpers with overrider tube assemblies _________________ Dave |

I've been trying to get a set of Tulip knobs and window winders but unfortunatly HOG is out of stock of the ivory knobs and Brezelwerks hasn't responded to the 2 emails I sent regarding shipping
This is the shifter that was in the car when I got it which i'm guessing is the OG shifter
I took it out as the shape seemed a little uncomfortable so I decided it probably wasn't correct, when I get a chance I will paint it and give it another go

That shifter is definitely the stock shifter Mike and like Dave posted they feel better shifting than a bug shifter since the seats are lower, the shifter knob appears to be a type2 unit though and not Ghia. _________________ It's not about the window, it's about the people.

Ok thanks
Will keep my eye open for a shifter knob like Johns then
Does the shifter have any detail on top or is it just plain? _________________ UK - GFK

It is smooth,no detail. Unless you get a used one which will probably be crazed to hell |

"Crazed to hell?"
You make that sound like it's an undesirable feature Russ...I wouldn't change mine for anything.

Repro, after looking on the Lowlight trim thread it seems that the KGPR trim was the closest to OG _________________ UK - GFK

Let me know how you like it. Seems to look the "most correct", but I don't like that it's thinner than original and doesn't have the shine like the stainless version. |

Wow that was damn good service from KGPR
Placed my order 10pm UK time on Friday night and it's been delivered at 8am this morning
As you said Q the trim's extremely thin and light weight so it might be difficult to fit without any distorion
Shine wise it doesn't seem to bad
Unfortunatly the 2 pieces that i've unpacked do have a few blemishes
I think it's going to be good enough to use for now but i'm going to be hunting down an OG set for when I do the full resto _________________ UK - GFK

I've got the KGPR stuff too- Although mine came through Mike @ HOG- I have compared it to the few OG pieces that I have and it seems virtually spot on- It's certainly a lot better than the OG stuff in terms of blemishes and bruises- I wouldn't fancy trying to source an NOS set of OG or a full set in perfect condition? I don't know how easy it is to repair either? If it is possible to fix I will let you have what I've got- as long as you let me see it restored because at some point my interior stuff will need re-doing!!
