That's another nice info sheet. I did some research recently and also came up with this
http://karmannghia.org/paint_chips.html
they give detailed info on 50s paint chips including model and year.
problem is the screen color isn't accurate for comparison and no metallic hues of course.
I also posted 54-57 color info in the oval gallery section.
As far as my convert is concerned three orginal metallic gray shades are possible for the 56 model year shetland grey, dolomite and sepia silver.
shetland gray was only delivered with red interior, while mine was beige.
so only dolomit und sepiasilber left. we'll find out. _________________ Hotrods, Fords, Veedubs and Triumph Twins !

Does anyone have these details anywhere please?
Cheers,
Dave | My car also has a stone beige color to the columthe stick and steering wheel from factory. What I dont understand is I know Ive seen this on other cars aswell but did they ever make beige dash knobs to match! or was this just nomal . I would think they shouldve! anybody know? |

Nice to meet you too and see your car again. It's one of my favorite verts and that engine is badass! It's always so cool to verify how things are supposed to look from such an og car.
I needed help with that box on my shoulder after about 90 seconds... |

WOW. This really is a great resource.
I have been restoring a '57 RHD for the last 10 Years (Yes a very long time) and am at the final stages of ordering the top and interior.
My car spent quite a number of years painted like a zebra looking for animals on a game farm. This unfortunately lead to the entire roof being ditched. In the mid eighties it was restored but unfortunately got more butchered as all the upholstery was ditched along with its original pan.
My goal is to make it 100% OG, so about 10 Years ago I started to collect parts and started the body work. I also managed to source a '57 saloon that was badly cut up and butchered which I saved the pan from. I also have a roof frame.
I took a great amount of research to decide on what colour it was as my birth certificate just said "blue" but it was a metallic colour. Eventually I decided that it must be L333 Pearl Blue, and had some paint matched to an original piece I had.
I would love to see pics of any L333 cars out there. Especially any with interiors.
Once again thank to all who contribute to this thread, it is great. I have learnt a great deal since starting this project and will contribute where I can.
Mike.

Thanks, My paint does have a light metallic finish in some light but almost has a slight green tint to it in others. Yours seems a little lighter but could be the flash, getting the "Birth Cert" like Izzy showed is always the easiest but revealing more og paint might help a little.

Here you are.In comparison to the sedan, Convert glass is much wider and more squarish at the upper corners.

|
|
Hi ,
I have a problem i would like to lower my car but 1 year ago i bought the CSP disc brake ,zero version model attached url below, i just found out that i could not get any drop spindle to install.
https://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=C31%2D499%2D165%2D5205ZO
I wrote to Cip and here is the answer :[ "Sorry I do not have any drop spindle that will work with that kit. The drop spindles I carry do not have drilled bosses for the factory backing plate (or caliper mount) for one and with the spindle re-located the steering arm interferes with the caliper bracket. It's not inconcievable that one could relocate the bracket on the spindle to clear the steering arm and drill holes in the spindle where needed to bolt tthe bracket in place but that work would have to be done by you."]
I am not sure how to do it myself so i will prefer to buy from a company who does that kind of drop spindle with drilled bosses for cliper mount.
any idea where can i find ?
thanks in advance ! |
