~ you do NOT have a 73 FEET long bus! You have a 1973 or a '73
The negative cable from the battery goes right to frame.
The engine is grounded from the frame to the trans nose.
#4 in the lower pic is the negative cable:
The ground strap is a braided cable with small ends, like this one:

could someone with a 72 bus show me a pic of where the grounds strap goes originally?
I found this thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=119398&highlight=ground+strap
where ratwell posted a pic, but i cant figure out WTH is going on in that pic.
also, anyone know how long the original strap is?
my bus has had its battery grounded direct to the engine this whole time, so i've never seen the original ground location/strap.
please and thanks! _________________ May of '72 Deluxe. 2.0L L-Jet CS & 091 trans conversion

There should be a woven wire ground strap fromt he battery to the body of th ebus using am 8mm bolt forward of th ebattery.
Also a chassis ground strap on the forward drivers side of the transaxle to the frame. |

Wrong, the ground strap on a 72 bolts to the vertical area just ahead of the battery, same place the pieplate is in but facing the battery not the engine. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Having the battery grounded directly to the engine is fine, but you still need a good ground strap on the front left of the transmission. |

Cool, thats likely best then. Just a note, on the '72's, the trans ground strap is actually on the right side of the tranny. has its own special place there and everything. correct me if im wrong, but i got pics. i think.
EDIT - this is where the tranny grounds. same for all 72 and earlier bays?
Thanks Guys. _________________ May of '72 Deluxe. 2.0L L-Jet CS & 091 trans conversion
