Thanks for the info. I need new tires on the front of my car next spring and will probably buy a pair of them. Is there a better size that will fit the front of my car with 2" narrowed and adjustable beam that will make my speedo read more correctly?

165-45-15 are the shortest 15" tire out there definatley not the right choice for speedometer readings. They are for the most part reserved for the "super" slammed buses some guys run them on bugs too but IMO they are just too short for the curvature of the fenders. as for your question how low is your car what wheels and brakes are on it??

A good small profile tire for your beetle would be a 145/65. The 165/45 and 165/50 look terrible on anyhting but a bus... and the bus has to be low to look good.

Opinions of course.

a 145/65 is a nice tire that looks good on a beetle.

But, then again you must be fairly low or it doesnt look right.

I am running stock drum brakes and brm's. It's an adjustable beam and I would say its lowered 2.5-3inches. But not totally sure

I'm running Continental 155/60/15. They give a little more tire contact and are 22.3" in diameter compared to the 145/65/15 which are 22.4" in diameter. The good thing is they make your speedo read too fast which may keep you from getting too far over the limit. Laughing

Well, I ordered the 165/45 and you guys were right..... too damn short in the sidewall department. Anyone interested in a set of them? I'd trade for a set of 155/60s or somethin else a little taller than these 165/45s. I know I'm gonna eat the shipping if I sell them Evil or Very Mad Would prefer a straight trade. I pay shipping for these, you pay shipping for yours. Let me know. If I try to return them online, I'm gonna get raped lol.

145/65/15, 175/55/15, 165/60/15(good luck finding these) all would be good for your car. all are smaller in Overall Diameter than 135r15s.

135r15 = 23.6"OD with 4.24" sidewall height
145/65/15 = 22.42" OD with 3.71" sidewall height
175/55/15= 22.57" OD with 3.78" sidewall height
165/60/15= 22.79"OD with 3.89" sidewall height

i'm a big pusher of the 185/55/15 to. i had them on my square for a while and as long as they work out OD for you they are great and CHEAP. tireseasy has the Achilles brand of them for less than $50 and they are good tires. i ran mine for nearly a year and they looked and had tread depth of new ones when i sold the wheels they were on. i see more type3 people using them than type1 but they should work fine for either...ken....
